Hi all, I went to the ring for the first time it's the furthest by far that I have taken the megane and she was awesome! the weather was dreadful, but it was great to finally do the track I have dreamed about doing for so long, I barely got any pics myself as my window wipers were on full speed at all times, but I found this on ring-photos.com
Nice, brave going round in the wet on your first time, especially in a UK car without proper insurance
Brave and glad you enjoyed it I did it for my first time this year as well and Spa on the way too got the car on the Wednesday drove out and had a Ball
I did have insurance, through insuremytrackday.com £160 for the day, covered my car up to it's value and £2000 worth of armco
On TF? Highly doubt you had proper 3rd party cover, which is what you want/need. No one covers TF properly for UK cars, well there's a couple but good luck trying to find out who. It's all hush hush LOL
I told them where I was going, they told me that I would be covered for up to £4000 for my car no matter who was at fault, I bought it online after speaking with them
Sounds like they were having you on, No UK insurer will cover you properly for TF, unless you told them you were doing a trackday? Which would of invalidated it anyway
Anyway, it's not cover for my own car I would be worried about, it's 3rd party so when Mr GT3 RS comes along and writes his car off cause of your accident/fluids etc then can't work for x amount of months your own company will pay out instead of chasing you for the hundreds of thousands at worst case.....
Not trying to put you off or anything but the amount of UK drivers that dont actually know or realise this fact is scary
Have you ever dived in a swimming pool? Done 33 in a 30? Had your wheels powder coated and not told your insurance? Stop giving the guy a hard time, people do it at their own risk and they are well aware of that. This guy had more insurance than most enjoy life a little wear a t shirt in the cold :0
OOOH I would LOVE to see the policy. Public days are uninsurable so I presume this was an ATDO track day you attended?
More insurance than most that was (if it was a TF day) useless and a waste of his £160 quid. I think thats what Jamie is trying to say...
Well Well... They did insure you, just not the vital bit at the ring: someone else. This is where the bills lie.
Thank you, at least someone else actually knows what they are on about and what cover you actually need
Important thing is chap drove sensibly and didn't need the insurance, we can't all have law degrees on all things nurburgring, motorsport and vehicle tuning now. I was there earlier this year for the first time in my 172 and thought it every bit lived up to the hype. I drove down South after through Switzerland and to stelvios for pizza, fantastic road trip!
okay, so i'm now confused!? below I have copied and pasted a part of the insurance details I was sent, was I not covered? and why? I haven't yet, but I will be doing, probs when i'm not stuck at work, will drop you a message when I have mate
basically if you went there and spanked a porsche at 100k you'd have a bit of trouble that said the porsche owner strictly speaking has no right of recovery on track, whether there is an RTA obligation for Hiscox to satisfy any claims as last insurer i'm unsure, would have to read the policy wording but basically say you binned it into the armco and it cost £20k you will have to pay £17.5k yourself!
That looks like track day cover mate, Was it a proper track day or just public driving? If the latter then i would be asking for a refund/complaining to them as they have mis sold that to you on the assumption that you were doing a proper closed track day
Actually under german law at the Nordshleife - He has. I know someone who suffered EXACTLY in this manner. German registered vehicles generally are only required to have 3rd party insurance. And as such they can (and have) successfully claimed against UK vehicles.
Pretty much I'm afraid. By EU law though your company has to cover the 3rd party but then your company will counter sue and chase you for the money, it's scary how much money you can owe as stuff goes wrong very quickly hence trackdays are the way forward unless you tuv your own car and get German insurance but that is mental money, even worse than UK insurance prices!
well that's pissed me off, maybe I should of looked into it more I suppose... you reckon its worth giving them a call? will I get anywhere with getting that £160 back?
I know someone who had a bad off on the 'Ring and his bill was just over 150,000 (euros) Best thing to do when at the 'Ring is drive it as a fast B road.
It hammered down when i went round a year or two ago, still a massive buzz to drive what you had seen on film n pictures so much before though.
well I'm annoyed as I wrongly thought I would be covered, but I look at it this way, the fact that I thought I would be covered made me let my hair down abit and I put my foot down and pushed myself. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it still brings a smile to my face when I think about it. if I knew I wasn't insured maybe I would of driven it like a B road. It's not going to stop me from going again, I was fortunate that nothing happened, next time I'll save myself £160
As I said before I've been it was my 3rd time on a track what gets me is the speed differences between cars and vans bikes
Well done mate, you not only survived the ring, you also survived the wet I couldn't bring myself to try a wet lap this year after watching my mate spin his exige into kallenhard (sp?) at walking pace!
I will be arranging a 'Ring trip next year if there is enough interest.. I have a friend who owns a nice hotel out there that will do us a very good rate, plus she knows all the viewing spots and has a garage on site for any repairs! Will start a topic early next year to see who is in! My Meggie wants to go and have a play!
