265 Temp Reading

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by OiNK, Apr 13, 2016.

  1. Hi,

I just noticed yesterday, my temp need seems to be moving between dead centre, and just to the marker left of dead centre. Mine has always remained dead centre once up to temperature.

Any ideas why this is happening? Is it cause for concern?

  2. Weird, im having the same issu with mine, its just moving in random times. I think its just something with the gauge electronics.

  3. Is there any way to confirm that theory or ensure it is nothing mechanical? Or should I ignore it and drive on lol....?

  4. thoughts anyone?

  5. My R26 does this as well, so it might be normal behaviour.

  6. As it seems impossible that the coolant temperature can move up and down that way, it have to be just the issue with the gauge electronics. Im not worring about it at all.

When you say it's moving, is it a sudden jolt?

Also does it drop when the car is in motion?

  8. Not sudden, moves slighty up, then back down, then back up and so on....Just started doing it yesterday.

It drops and rises when it motion, does not seem to matter.

    Tried bleeding it?

Could be the thermostat on its way out, not opening and closing gradually as it should.

  10. How do I go about doing that  ?

  11. My gauge makes more like a sudden jolt, static moving up/down fast, so it can be some different issue with yours.

Firstly have you checked your coolant level?

In my experience that's more likely to be the coolant temperature sensor.

  14. Car was serviced by Renault 2 weeks ago 36k miles, coolant level in overflow is spot on.

Is access to the radiator restricted by the bumper?

    Yes.

I take it your car is now out of warranty?

  16. Still in warranty until Feb 2017

Get it booked in mate, no point getting your hands dirty. Fluctuations are not normal.

  18. Probably best, cheers, sent you a pm.

  19. Sounds like your thermostats on its way out mate. £32 from Renault parts direct and 1hr job to fit!

  20. Is this a common fault on these cars?

Every car I've ever owned has needed one at some point. I remember changing one on a caddy van, when I took it out of the housing it pretty much disintegrated in my hand.

  22. Must admit, I've never had to change one before and I've had about 10 different cars now lol...

  23. Mine does it but on the other side. Ie fluctuates between dead centre and the hotter side of the centre section. Never bothered me. If it goes into the red section I'll get worried.

  24. Thermostats are very common mate. Mine was on its way out a few weeks back and changed it myself. I posted a 'how to' guide on here somewhere if you end up giving it a go

  25. Oh, where did you post it? Would like to give it a go myself for the sake of the price of a thermostat, probably cost me more driving to and from the dealer to have it done under warranty lol

  26. Also, best place to get a genuine thermostat, price wise....

  27. Search for 'thermostat' mate and it's a thread by me (Jack250) halfway down the page

  28. Yep get genuine, always seems to best on these cars!

  29. Where is the cheapest to get genuine parts?

Renault parts direct are about £30, I don't know how comparable they are. You'll lose some coolant so that'll need topping up.

  31. Yep result parts direct. I'll be honest thought mate, if my car was under warranty I'd take it straight in, quite a bit of faffing doing the thermostat. Depends if you can be bothered or not!

  32. faulty thermostat! mine does this too recently and i'm not uncertain the thermostat is the reason why it does this

    Got it sorted yet?
