Hi Guys, The other week I cleaned out my throttle body on my 225, was having loads of problems with it cutting out randomly, also the rev counter frequently bounced between 800 - 1200RPM I can honestly say the different is amazing, car is bang on 1000RPM as soon as it starts and it feels like a different car. worth doing to anyone having those sort of problems, easy job to do, and i'm a baby mechanic. Pics attached. Before; After;
Yeah couldn't agree more, with mine cutting out and how much carbon you can see built up on the throttle body it was on deaths door. But now it's so fast and perky! defo worth doing. will be posting a guide this weekend to help everyone.
Holy crap, never seen any throttle body as dirty as this on any car really, why there are so much dirt on it? Is it related with the oil changes or some issues with the turbo or crankcase breathing? Is it normal for those engines to dirty up the throttle valve so much?
Car has done 67K and is now nearly 12 years old, so it's probably built up over time, I can assure you it will never have been done before! the dirty side shot was the side that faces the engine. Abit of throttle body cleaner from ECP for £3 and it's as good as new! oil changes on the car have been done every 15K miles looking at the service history.
Jesus that's black! Worth sticking a new gasket on there too for the sake of £5 if you take it off again.
Happen to know where you can this from? i've been looking around but can't find one. or have a Renault part number? Thanks.
Took mine off to give mine a clean and found this in the pipe connects to it. Is this normal? Looks like oil. Surprising how much of a state these TB's get into as well. Mine was caked in shit.
It's amazing how much more perky the car feels after a good clean out! I didn't look at that pipe when I did mine, i've always considered changing it to a SAMCO pipe but never got around to paying 50 odd quid to do it.
Just noticed the clip going to the TB has snapped the bastard. No idea how much a new one is like, can't imagine it'll be much
That can happen if the clip is old and brittle, get yourself to the scrappy. Laguna 2.0 or another Megane 225 will be the same circle clip, Renault will charge you for the who cable £50 quid.
Might also be worth in investing in one of these mate; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301742359312?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT It will keep your pipe on lock down so it can't pop out.
You could always use some cable ties and tie is down till you find a scrappy who has one? or wait for one to come up on eBay
Ordered one now mate. Tried to cable tie one down but it was still leaking and was revving its tits off so cut my losses. Love spending money I don't have to anyway.
I just made my own forge type clamp from a straight bit of flat metal. 10 mins to make and zero cost.
Fair play to Renault Wolverhampton. Ordered the new pipe yesterday afternoon and it arrived this morning. Can't believe that poxy pipe cost £45 though lol
Vacuum clip Hi ant, I'm keen to give this a go. What did you do to avoid breaking the little plastic clip with the hose on it? Did you leave it attached to the TB? How does the wiring loom plug undo? Thanks, Jimmy.
You have to be extremely gentle, the clip acts as a grip inside the throttle body, if you have some very small electrical screwdrivers you have wiggle it off without damage, it all depends how corroded the clip is... The other way is like you say remove the throttle body with the clip attached, but the pipe holding the throttlebody in place is extremely stiff, what I actually did was as follows; the pipe leading from the clip with the bend inside leave in place, the straight footlong pipe, I cut in the middle, this gave me the wiggle room to get it out without snapping anything. i then used a knife and cut the whole middle section of the pipe out, it's sealed to the plastic on either end and is impossible to get off, I just end up buying a replacement silicon hose on eBay and jobs a gooden. (£2)
It's a 50/50 chance if that hose will break, if it does it's a 50 quid new hose from Renault, or if you have plenty of scrapys around you, you might be able to find one off a 2L petrol Laguna, they are like gold dust to find off a scrapped 225. The other option is, if it breaks cable tie it down, that's what a lot of members have done on here.
Excellent work mate. Although doing mine cost me an extra £45 as I snapped the plastic lug that connects to it .
Yeah sorry about that! that plastic connection is probably one of the worst designs! the fact it costs so much too! £50quid for abit of plastic is a rip.
Not your fault mate. Stupid brittle plastic crap lol. Bought the forge metal clamps as well to make sure the new pipe stays where it is. All sorted now anyway
