HELP PLEASE.....gearbox/shifter???

  1. Ok bear with me.

    Question for you's

I now have a very vague gear change, I've only noticed in the last week.
While its in gear the stick has loads of play in it.
And a couple of times now pulling up to a stop I've not been able to select any gears. Lever just stirs porrage.
But when in gear there is no noises, no pull on the stick when accelerating. No clutch slip. All seems ok in gear just feels shite when you touch the stick.

Is it something simple like the shifter is fooked (want a short shift anyway)
Or have I now got a fooked gearbox or clutch????

Any help would be great as its now sitting on my drive just in case.

    Mike

  2. Sloppy linkages???? Short shift needed??? Will that fix it?

  3. unlikley the box, it's fairly simple setup just two cables with plastic cups each end, so cracked cup on selector arm on g/box or similar cup at gear lever end in cabin, could mean new cables.

  4. Thanks,
Still haven't had time to look at it yet due to work.
    But hopefully that simple.

  5. no..if the linkage is the problem, the gears would be stiff, and non self centering
does sound like the cable connections..take the battery out..get someone to select gears, and see what the linkage is doing...as mentioned, possibly a damaged cable clip...they easily break if played with...you have to push the sides in to release the jaws round the ballstud.People lever them of with a screwdriver, fking the jaws up,so the ball connection is flopping around.

  6. Thanks are both cables the same?? As want to make sure I buy the correct ones?

  7. first check that the cable is attached correct to the linkage..it could be as simple as that.
if you take the battery and tray out,the linkage will then be in plain site..check the cable clips, then get someone to select gears, and see whats happening.

the cable is detached here from the ballstud..make sure you just cant lift it off,or if its bodged up to stay on..

  8. You were correct. The inner plastic part of the connection was in bits, new parts on the way
    Thanks

  9. result!..lucky it didn't fall off completely in the middle of nowere..

  10. Well cables are fixed

    But..........
Now my electric Windows only work about 3cm per button press? I'm thinking I've broke something when battery disconnect ????
Both sides are the same and had no problems before..

  11. Take the window all the way to the top, the pull and hold the switch for 10 seconds or so, just needs the limits resetting.

  12. these always do this when you disconnect the battery..do the above..sorted.

  13. Every day is a school day... But now feel like smashing the car up with a hammer now as it thrown a ton of oil over the drive.
Gutted isn't the word as she flying.
