Just about to order some, and after some confirmation please, going for 225/40/18, now I've noticed a few different speed and load ratings, are 92y ok? Would Any suit the car regardless with them being a performance tyre? Cheers
I just ordered up a set of them for £106 each but 235/40/18 (RS250 CUP wheels standard size) and I've gone with 91y. Y means able to see 186mph no issues there. 91 means 615kg per corner. Well I've had mine corner weighted and it's under 440kg each corner at the front and around 190kg on the rear corners so no issues there. Can't comment for sure on the R26 for sure other than unless your going over 186mph on a regular basis then yes 'Y' rating will be fine.
I'm often hitting over 200 mph on my daily commute on the back roads lol, cheers for that info mate, that's cleared it up, where did you get them at that price in that size, that's standard fitment for the r26 also, but noticed on another thread everyone was ordering 225,'s , think it was due to not being able to find 235 fitment.
ISTR the 92 load rating on a 225 wide tyre is one of the variants listed in the RenaultSport Megane handbook supplement (Tyre Pressures tables). There probably going to be the next tyres I fit on the car and interestingly I couldn't find that tyre before but spotted a couple of places now list it such as Camskill. The 235 wide on the 91 and 95 load ratings are the other 18" versions listed in my R26 handbook.
Ordered mine from Blackcircles, they rang me to say they're Porsche specific did I know, as they have an N4 mark. Basically means tyres are of a higher standard and unchanged from Porsche spec and compound. If you google 'Porsche N Tyre' you'll get a better idea. 235/40/18 (95W) = £107.15 235/40/18 (91Y) = £108.21 On the site at moment.
MPSS are absolutely fantastic all rounders - really good peak grip, fantastic wet grip, durable, lots of tread and well priced. They're pretty much my go-to tyres for road use. Anything 88Y or above will be fine for the r26.
In 235 size they are pilot sport 3 and 4, not the super sport tyre, had a look at the n rated tyres, some good info on them. Superb! Best price i can find in 225/40/18 is tyre leader at £115 delivered, plus ten pound fitting at my local garage, Tyres on the drive are coming in at £129 each fitted, for the hassle I'll probably go with them, unless I can find them nearer to a £100.
N rated doesn't mean there any better just specified by Porsche for one of the models. I asked in a fitters once to look at an N version of a tyre and the normal version, the N version was a touch wider and had a slightly lower tread wear rating so probably slightly softer compound. Others have told me sometimes they have slightly different construction etc. small tweeks as Porsche wanted it.
We have been over this before. 88 load rating is not one of the listed tyre specifications for the car so you a fitting a tyre that is both load rated lower than OEM spec fitment and not on the fairly wide list of options (91, 92, 95 at 225 and 235 width), technically a modification which you should declare with the insurer. The one time I asked a tyre manufacturer about this the advice I had was never to fit a lower load rated than OEM spec tyre onto a car.
True but for daily road use I've never noticed much difference in the tyres for an additional £200 a cost a set, most comparisons have been drawn agains the MPS2 vs the MPSS and all seem vague anyway such as... stopping distance in the wet is 3 metres less. What speed for example? The MPSS is a heavier tyre and whilst it might have some advantages a big disadvantage is unsprung weight especially when I've bought OZ HLT wheels to lose 4kg per wheel I don't think for road use on the Megane I would notice the difference, I wouldn't use them on track as would use a more track specific tyre therefore for me I think the MPSS extra 30-45% cost per tyre doesn't give that benefit back as the MPS tyres are still very very good tyres in there own right. If you want a decent tyre thats surprising in the wet then I would say go CUP 2's but then thats another £80 a set of costs on top of the MPSS. For £108 the MPS tyre is for me the best there for value for money for performance and price in my opinion but it is only my opinion and preference. Pilot Super Sports? Yes, I bought 4 from Costco for £144 each and promotion got you £75 back.
That's certainly the mistake people usually make with the N rating aka they are fitted to Porsche so they must be better, when in fact they are just different. Anyway, what defines a 'better tyre' is too complex to nail specifically because individual requirements are so diverse. However, it never seems to stop people trying to convince others they have found the solution, usually driven by brand loyalty or the fact they have them fitted to their own chariot.
Nice caveat there, regarding its only your own opinion and preference. The other looming issue for those that run semi slicks on the road is the creeping legislation that will kill off many of the stickier brands for road use. That's one of the reasons why the R888R replaced the R888, remains road legal.

As Aerofoil says they're available in 19" as he mentions, I bought my 19" set from Costco as they did a £75 promotion if you bought 4 wheels. I bought 235/40/18's but these were Pilot Sport 2's that are currently sitting in my garage, arrived next day was pretty impressed. Think there is a bit of confusion over rim dia here. For the MPSS in 18 inch for the Megane, they are getting rare as Michelin is pushing the PS4 and they are only starting to support certain sizes in the MPSS.
I bought my MPSS18" 225/40/18 a few weeks ago from camskill...interestingly though,even though I bought them from camskill,they were sent direct from Michelin? I have already noticed the turn in is sharper than my ps2`s..shame they don't do 235/40/18..
I have mps3 and had mpss on my other car (astra vxr gtc) ,the mps3 on my meg now are rubbish especially in the wet, sometimes get wheel spin in third gear and my car is standard ,mpss are in a different league
Personally I highly rate them as performing almost well as the MPSS for much less money. I don't rate PS3's and I've never used PS4's. I found from my own experience the Pilot Sport 3's are pants, the PS2 was the one that was originally replaced with the MPSS. The Pilot Sport 3 compared to the Pilot Sport 2 is harder and deemed the 'eco' version. Tread pattern completely changed. Tyres are 'VERY' personal I find, different people like different brands / tyres etc, etc. Its not just the tyre anyway it's the pressures you run that at that makes a huge difference as well I find. I rate myself the MPSS very highly and I also rate the PS2 and think the MPSS is better but not enough to warrant the price hike. I know it's old but this was interesting review between the MPSS and PS2 using M3's and professional drivers http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=422778 the difference in performance is non existent. However, over the time since the launch of the MPSS it now has history in that although it's performance is on par / same as the PS2 the tread wear is much better and therefore lasts longer, but at the same time they cost more so it all seems in my mind to generally equal out.
Some sound advice there, cheers. Its my first renaultsport and I'm currently on MPSS and they are superb. I reckon there is a month or so left in them so I'm in the market for fresh rubber. Been doing some research into the PS4's but not much info on them just yet. Its such a tricky decision. Right now I'm thinking another set of MPSS but will have to make do with another set of 225's i think.
MPSS in 225 are certainly about if you want to remain down a size. Also there are various rumours floating around regarding the MPSS future replacement/upgrade. The best choice is the one based on what you what to spend and what you really need out of a tyre.
This is the reason I've been holding out for some reviews on the PS4. In evo last month they said that it was a replacement for the MPSS? Since reading that i haven't heard much else. I don't mind keeping the 225's but if the PS4's are a replacement to the MPSS and i can run 235's then thats what i'd go for, as long as they get a good write-up.

They're not. EVO made a mistake, easily done. There will be a proper replacement for the MPSS. Sorry I can't find the source but this gas been debunked.

Thanks for the input guys, I've just had to order them through oponeo, in 225/40/18 92y , £121 each delivered, I had originally ordered them off tyres on the drive, but they rang me, saying there was a slight problem, being that the tyres where 88y, and not 92y as I had ordered, they said they would ring the delay and see if this was ok, I told them not to bother, ( thanks to info on this thread) they then said no problem, the tyre fitting can still take place on Monday as organised with some other tyres in the same size, lmfao! I politely told them where to shove it, I ordered specific tyres for a reason not to have anything that matches the size fitted!
