Unwanted Megane Trophy R

  1. didn't realise they were being sold for that amount! can think of a few other cars you can buy with that money and have change left over!

  2. There is a R26 R for sale at the moment at KTR I would pay £15k max for it no more !

  3. There was one for sale at £29,995 and it sold straight away...

Shows you where the market is. So this and the two or three others are 7/8k over priced.

No one apart from a proper die hard enthusiast will pay nearly 40k for it when you can get in to Porsches and stuff for that money

  4. I can only dream of spending that kind of money on a car but one thing is for sure it wouldnt be spent on a Renault!!

  5. It puts it into perspective when you can have a brand new Focus RS away for £30K.

The market has moved on, rivals do similar performance stuff and the Megane is just not unique enough for the money. Too much speculation, too few buyers.

  6. I don't think the LY does anything for the trophy R for some reason, definitely not the colour I would have gone for if I was ordering one.

  7. That was my thoughts exactly.

Needs to be white with black roof and red wheels/decals.

  8. i think the Focus price has put the Megane into perspective, well overpriced for what it is. I'm sure they will reach a more realistic level in time, certainly won't be appreciating.

  9. Another way to look at it, if you look on AutoTrader there are currently 48 of the new Civic Type R for sale from £26K+

I know the Type R is one ugly bastard, one cruised past me over the weekend and I thought no fooking way, I'm too discerning, but it's still a very capable bit of kit.

Seems to be completely unwanted though and the Trophy R isn't something significantly more special.

  10. The Mk3 Focus RS should bring a sense of realism to the market. Its definitely been over egged. The Honda looks the biggest bomb of them all.

  11. Excuse my ignorance but are the Trophy R's a limited run number?? (I have come from a very long line of RS Fords so not upto speed with all things French)

  12. Like others have said if it were white with black roof & red wheels/decals it would be alot more appealing. Thoes are the colours a trophy r is associated with. In the UK I don't think the mk3 trophy r one will ever be as iconic as the r26.r. because it never got top gear less is more plastic windows review like the r26.r

  13. Yes they are limited, 250 worldwide of which only 30 right hookers came to the UK.

Of the 30 mentioned above, all had orders placed before lunch time on the opening day, although some of these were later cancelled. The R26.R didn't all sell and Renault were left with unsold cars at the end of the models life IIRC, although the numbers involved were higher. My point is, I think you're wrong about the Trophy R not being as iconic as the R26.R, irregardless of what that moron on TG might have said or not said.

  14. Lots of the Trophy R orders were from unscrupulous Renault dealers and Renault didn't actually sell all of them that quickly.

The R26R introduced a bit of race technology into an everyday hatch. Novel at the time. The Trophy R just repeated the process but at a time when rivals had caught up both in terms of capability and Ring times. Both are now the subject to a bit of speculation that isn't finding buyers.

  15. I think there just wasn't enough hype for the megane especially how fast it is at the ring compared to its competition.

If it got anyware neer as much publicity as the new type r or rs it would have been a different story.

I don't think much of top gear reviews either but if you ask the average bloke who thinks theyr a car guy because they have a vxr and watch an hour of clarkson being a tit on a Sunday night what a megane trophy r is they probably won't know. Or they think your on about an r26.r

  16. It's just one of those cars that if you know, you know.
You would think that with all the hype over the stripped out road racer type cars like the GT3/RS the Trophy/R would be hot topics.
Trouble is everyone wants the best of everything these days. It is rare to find a guy that has enough money to finance/buy a nigh on 40k car that wouldn't just go straight to Audi and get an RS3 or a A45 AMG etc.

I personally never understand Ford RS residuals I think they are ridiculous but it proves a point that when you make a hyped car at an affordable price people go nuts for it. Everyone I've ever spoken to that has had one of the previous generation ones made a profit on their sale! Madness. At 30k though it really puts in to perspective how much too expensive those R's are.

If im sat there with 30k you would easily pick the car you can use everyday vs the car you have to find another 6 grand for that you can only use at the weekends.

There is also the point that I just don't think they are different enough from a normal Trophy/Cup-S. Still worked for Renault I suppose because they sold 000's of Trophys. You could turn a Trophy in to an R for probably less money than the difference was at the dealer?

  17. The moment of truth is slowly approaching. Used Trophy R have been sitting around for many months and dealers are waiting for the phone to ring on any old R26R.

The weather is perking up, the clocks have changed and the track day season is picking up. Speculators are watching to see what shifts and is their money better off in one than an ISA. Private owners of an R will be thinking their own chariots are worth a mint, but forget they aren't a dealer and asking prices are irrelevant if no money is landing on the table.

Unfortunately, the bottom line is: nothing much in the Renault R game is selling, so confidence looks like it may be seriously going down the pan. Time will tell.

  18. The R26.R was fairly unique. Not massively, but sufficiently different from other models to carry a premium

the Trophy R is a 250 Cup with a remap and stuff removed....few subtle changes no doubt but when a depreciated car has no real difference to the latest model, who chooses the latest model?

they should follow the Porsche sales model if they want to keep prices high

  19. i find it really sad that people buy cars just to garage them for investment. Cars should be driven and enjoyed.

  20. I think the fact that you can buy a Cup-S with Ohlins ruins the appeal of the Trophy-R.

  21. Lovely car but too similar to existing models and doesn't/won't have the same desirability as the R26R. IMO it needed to be even more hardcore for that. It'll be desirable always of course but only a little more than other 'normal' models.

Exactly! Why have a beautiful body and never flaunt it!

  23. Think the moment has passed for this now... Newer "better" cars coming out.... Reckon people are holding out for the Focus RS. Think this will have to go down to 30 to get any I interest

  24. Yeah there wasn't really any hype surrounding it like the focus. Ford have a bigger budget to fly everyone and their mum out to drive it around Spain and drive it with Ken block. And it seems that the market is swinging towards cars that drift themselves when you push a button, and shove some fuel into the exhaust every time you lift off to get that magic crackle! Amazing car the megane but I think it needs someone with lots of spare money and a serious love of driving real cars!

  25. Agreed. Pure enthusiasts car. Genuinely think it is the last of the 'proper' hot hatches. The new breed won't be the same as proven by the RS

  26. Could be 5000 track miles out of 6000. Like the phrase 'when at home' it gets pampered but missed 'when on track' it gets hammered.

Tbf it looks good, but still significantly more ££ than a new Focus RS or similar mileage used Civic Type R.

  27. To be fair I would rather him be honest and look after it than lie and say it has done trips to the shops.
It's a track car at the end of the day- so any car you buy like this is going to have been abused

  28. Some odd attitudes come with the buyers for this type of motor though. They want a used car to abuse on track, but dont want anybody having abused it before them.

  29. Yeah that is a fair point. Considering 30 were sold I've seen 10 of them I think for sale at one point in the past 6 months. Shame really

  30. Update time.

The three used Trophy R and six R26R that have been for sale for months are still sitting there. No buyers.

    All overpriced.

  31. R26

    R26

Not many people want a car that can go round the ring in the fastest time anymore, people grow up and stop foaming at the mouth over a time they couldn't set themselves. Doesn't help that it's not the King anymore as that rules out the few that are interested in such things.

  32. I reckon a lot of buyers wanted a decent track car for trackdays. The Ring just added a bit dose of cred.

You're right, it's not the King anymore and it's also now subject to traders trying to push it into speculator/collector status. That doesn't seem to working. Buyers are staying at home.

  33. I had an R26R,but sold it for a fair price. Now have R26,faster more comfortable, track days, and Tesco shopping, not bothered about how many miles it racks up.
