250 New wheel bolts

  1. Tried the search function but i'm useless at it!
I'm after a new set of bolts for the megane (Standard 18" wheels) since mine are utterly ruined by rust.

How can the clio ones be perfect and the megane ones go so rusty?

Anyway, how much are the oem bolts, and have they changed them at all so they don't rust anymore?

  2. Just buy a set of covers to go on them. Get them off eBay for like £5. Looks a million times better

  3. Covers look gay IMO

Best going for some tpi bolts. I'm going to order some march time once winters done with.

  4. Ain't they like £80? They suffer from rust after a while as well iirc

  5. I'll get some black ones

One thing for certain they won't rust like the o.e ones lol!

  6. Lmao that's true

  7. They've been on mine now for the last year and while they are a bit scuffed in places they've stood up to the elements fairly well.

I had some other cheaper ones that just tarnished like the oem ones after a bit, the tpi ones seem pretty hard wearing.

  8. Friend of mine had some on his car pretty sure he said they didn't even last a year (rust). But maybe it depends what you clean the wheels with?

  9. Only ever clean mine with soap and occasionally a bit of ironx.

  10. ^^^^ I had these on mine and they were great. Make sure you buy ones with a plastic removal tong as the steel tongs just seem to slip off. I'm running TPI bolts now and not had any problems with rust yet and they've been on quite a while

  11. I've got the plastic covers, but they look cheap and nasty close up.
Anyone have a link to the oem bolts?

  12. The car detailer and the garage thought mine were real!
Different qualies I suppose. Mine were ordered and they wrongly supplied smoked chrome which were very dark matt grey.
Those looked great on silk black wheels. The VXL ones I had were dark matt greay. The shinier all black ones were fine but I lost three.

  13. I've got covers on mine. Cheaper and better than buying all new bolts and they don't look cheap at all. Only thing to point out with any changes here is that your locking wheel nut probably won't match.

  14. Taken out the locking ones anyway, still want to get rid of the covers!
Any links to the tpi ones?

  15. I got mine on eBay from Taper Pro (username sixonetwo_ltd). I've had a look and can't see the Megane ones on eBay though. Just give them a shout through their website: http://www.taperpro.co.uk. I'm quite sure the below are the part numbers for the Mk3 but might be an idea to confirm with them first:

    16x black wheel bolts: WB7775028BC-TPI-16 £24.95
    Locking bolts (economy): LBB7675028BC-TPI £14.95

I've had them on mine for nearly two years now and a couple of them have some small rust spots. These appeared after I drove the car a few hundred miles on heavily salted roads then had to head offshore for 6 weeks before I could wash the car. I'd be surprised if any other wheel bolts wouldn't have ended up the same. Just make sure not to do the same as I did and I'm sure they'll be fine for you.

I've got TPI bolts on my Megane... they've corroded quite badly after 2 years use.

Mine are still okay but they've not been taken on and off that much.

  18. These ones that have corroded, are these the polarised ones?

I'll be getting the black ones I think

  19. My ones are the black ones.

  20. I've had the black TPi bolts on mine for about 18 months now, still like new. I had the covers before which were fine but think the bolts look a lot nicer.

Tpi ones rusted within a year on mine, then they were incredibly rude after my email to ask them if they rust after only a year.

They can fook right off in my opinion!

  22. I bought some 2nd hand and still mint

  24. I have standard ones on mine and silver 17" wheels and I sprayed mine in situ with Hammerite silver and they look great!

  25. Every other post I've read is M12?

  26. It is M12...

  27. 12x1.5 26mm for the MK3. I'm running the 28mm black TPI ones on mine (summer only) like shown in the photo at the top of the page.

  28. Right so I bought some black TPI bolts from Taperpro as mentioned in this thread.

Only, they don't fit? They are m12x1.50 17mm but the angle of the taper seems off? It won't seat right in the wheel. What pitch/angle should they be?

    Cheers

  29. I had issues on the front where basically the last few threads were rusted up through the hub. So the new bolts wouldn't tighten up to the wheel, properly

As the taper/seat is a bit different the bolt threads are around two-three threads longer

Had (with a bit of elbow grease) to clean the threads out using the old bolts. Now mine fit fine

  30. So here is an image of my old bolt and the new tpi bolt. It looks like the old bolts are Radial and the new TPI bolts are tapered?

  31. Yeah they are the ones I have

Just need to clear out the threads as mentioned

    They fit fine

  32. for some reason, I don't see any images any longer???

17mm is deffo too short.. original bolts are like 27mm long

weird.. afaik, the oem bolts have a rotating tapered sleeve.. are you on oem rims?

  33. Don't know where my images have gone, you'd be able to see what I'm on about.

Sorry I meant the head is 17mm bolt. Length is no different.

I fitted one one to a different hole and I think it fits, may have just been a rusty thread in the hub.

  34. It will be

Two options, get a tap set and clean out the threads, or do what I did...... plenty of WD40 and use the old bolts and lots of swearing/effort to get them clear

  35. Like above the oem bolts don't use all the threads in the hub, mine needed some persuasion the first time. I'd suggest fitting them and torquing them up and removing them and refitting.

TPi ones on mine must be over a year old now and still looking decent.

  36. Not keen on the tpi bolts. The OEM ones with the floating tapered washers allow them to seat on the alloys and give a consistent capability to correctly torque up. Cheap tpi engineering solution for looks.

Clean up the old OEM ones, prime and then Hammerite.
