225 My car is becoming a swimming pool

  1. So I live in Australia and it is hot as balls currently but my car is all wet inside, the 2 little storage cases in front of the seats and all the carpets are drenched. I believe it's the air conditioner so I have stopped using it and that is extremely hard because it is so damn hot. Pushing my fist into the carpets creates a big puddle under my hand.

I don't know what to look for to find any leaks. I know how to strip the dash on the left side as I have had to take the fan out. The water in my car is so bad that when it starts to rain my car fogs up so bad I can't drive the car.

  2. You've checked your scuttle drains are clear?
Then it sounds like seats, carpet and underlay out and dry them out. And at the same time check the heater/cooler matrix in the bottom of the centre of the dash (are you losing coolant, although you'd smell it).

Also iirc there is a drain hole under the matrix box for condensate drainage.

  3. Remove front speaker panels, remove speakers, seal around them, and replace. Make sure drain holes in bottom of doors are also clear. I have cut the rubber, where the drain holes are, which will also help, and as already stated, make sure the scuttle drains are clear.

  4. Yeah, not scuttles, it's fine during rain other than fogging up horrifically.

  5. Has anyone got a picture of this little rubber thing? I can't seem to find the damn thing

  6. Me neither.

  7. I've just sealed the speakers in, see if that stops the bloody water getting in, i'll have to strip the carpets out once I've finally cured the poxy leak:mad:

  8. Yea not my drains either; will be pulling apart the centre console and the glove box to try find the leak. *sighs*

  9. I have to pull my dash apart again today as my fan stops working if I go to power 7 or 8... I pull the entire fan out, pull the brushes out and spin the fan freely and unplug and replug the relays just to make sure I move everything lol. I get the fan working again usually, get's a bit hot here and rains a lot. Luckily the rain isn't affecting the wetness of my car.

  10. I've the same problem, the two storage boxes are always wet, guys in the German forum also told me that it has something to do with the AC, funny thing is I NEVER use the AC ?

  11. Has anyone a photo of that flap they are talking about in the meganeownersclub thread ?

  12. Some one tell us where the flap is please.

  13. Anyone

  14. I don't think anyone knows.

  15. I believe it's under the exhaust heatshield near the front; found an image while searching over the weekend but will need to dig it out again

  16. Not sure if this is sorted now but in case not or for the benefit of those searching in the future:

I have had water in the passenger storage thing and footwell since the aircon was brought back to life. Assuming it was the drain holes I cleared these (bit crappy) and hoped for the best but the problem came back straight away. I used this, not terribly clear, guide: http://www.meganesport.net/footwell.htm and focused specifically on the bit about the aircon tray. You can see a hole in the tray which lines up with a rubber tube from the inside of the car to the out and will probably be blocked. To be honest now that it's back together I would recommend this method as the amount of muck in the tray, around the housing it goes in and in the tube itself would be impossible to clear from underneath. I am led to believe it pops out under a heatshield between the front seats.

What I did was strip all the carpet and foam out of the passenger side, locate the drip tray behind the flap in the footwell on the NS, undo the two brass T20 screws you can see and the plastic clip (that's all that holds it in) then yank out the tray and force a drain rod through the rubber drain to push out all the shite that was in there (lots) as the little tray thing was filling up and overflowing with a surprising amount of condensation and running down the footwell and pooling in the pocket thing.

    Worth noting the following:

The little tray thing is an absolute twat to get back in as there is no space and in the end I lost my rag and ripped the foam underneath it out and threw it at a wall. It's wet and stinky and it's not going back in unless it has some mystical significance that I can't see. You can be pretty brutal with the tray and use the cardboard method described in the guide.

You REALLY need to strip the foam out and spray it all with Dettol or something. It holds SO MUCH water and mine stank. It's a ball ache and mucky work if everything is wet but it will definitely go mouldy if you leave it.
