All those who have replaced the front speakers . . .

  1. I have read some previous posts which suggest there is not much room behind the door cards.

The speakers I have are 5.25 inch in diameter and prob 3 inches deep.

Then there would need to be room for the crossovers, cabling etc.

    What are your thoughts?

    Many thanks.

  2. I think anything deeper than standard leads to water finding its way into the door pockets, which is obviously not ideal! Can't remember off the top of my head how deep the standards are but they're pretty shallow. Might get away with 3 inches...

  3. Mk2 or Mk3?

3" you've got no chance without serious hacking, and even then the window glass will probably hit the speaker. Anything bigger than the specific fit pioneers (which are pretty decent once amped) aren't worth the hassle imo.

  4. they do need to be shallow for the fronts because of the windows, they will hit the speaker when lowering i put the specific pioneers in the front with slighty larger speakers in the rear and a sub in the boot with a aftermarket head unit the sound you will get will be amazing and a perfect upgrade for your car if you love your music since the standard speaker are just terrible.

  5. Thanks guys think I will sell the ones I've got an invest in the specific fit pioneers then . . . can you point me in the right direction?

I assume the rears are the same . . . may just buy four (pioneers) and run a 4 channel amp, should give a good sound.

Never that keen on having a sub in the boot as I use the space.

  6. as far i know is to try car audio direct they have a wide range of products and is where i go to buy my audio items and can say are top notch for delivery etc etc.

  7. I've had all sorts if systems, the pioneers really don't do a lot as they're still only 13cm. 6x9's on a stealth shelf gives a far better sound and no loss of boot.

  8. good shout this is what I had in my saxo (in the old days) . . . where could I find one for a Megane? Just run off the head unit or amplified? I'm planning to get this unit as my friend has one laying around, just need to work out what I need in terms of adaptor/fascia etc.

  9. Adaptors etc all online, shelf online too, eBay usually best for the shelf.

You can cut in to the original shelf as my previous owner did and the shelf seems to hold up ok. Not my preference though.

If you're getting a new head unit, you'll lose a lot if the functions and dash display. I had a flip out alpine DVD in my old meg. Really cool, great sound, but missed the screen and functions on the stalk!

  10. What will I lose from the dash display? Not too concerned about the stalk as never use . . .

  11. Unless you find a specific H/U you'll end up with just the time and temp on the central dash. When I had a connecting lead it displayed "alpine".

  12. I think Alpine do a lead that keeps the display etc. D102RNE or something like that. Its quite expensive if I recall correctly and only fits alpine head units obv.

  13. Cool. Are we talking about the central dash i.e. above heater vents? If so I'll be replacing that with a scangauge anyway (-:

  14. Yep it's the central display

  15. Sounds like you're good to go

  16. Can you fit deeper speakers in the rear quarters? Has anyone changed these??

I might put the speakers I have in there 5.25 inches which is 13.34 cm will they fit?

Behind the rear panels is a big cavity so yes, the only problem is mounting something large and powerful to the flimsy plastic panel, it'll sound pants in my opinion. I cut an mdf panel and mounted it inside the cavity and used that to mount speakers.

    ^^^^ I'm assuming we're talking a mk2 3dr.

  19. And an increase of .34.. Hardly ground shaking

I wasn't referring to the speakers he has but more towards the potential of fitting something bigger, as the space in the rear would allow this. 6x9 are a possibility but wouldn't mount them to the plastic trim.

  21. already have 6x9's so think I'll just mount these into a stealth audio parcel shelf . . . easy job then . . .

    By far the easier alternative.
