Mk2 Shortshift

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by toms, Oct 15, 2015.

  1. Thanks guys

  2. Interesting thread as this will be my next mod.

Anyone got a guide as to how to remove the whole shifter unit? Can it be done from inside the car or do you need to get underneath too.

Ive got a Megane 225 Trophy (2005) Is this classed as a ph1 or ph2??

So this is the Ktec unit. Where is the actual modification to it? Is this a ph1 or ph2 shifter??

  3. search my name..there is a fitting guide I posted up years ago.
all work done outside the car,in the engine bay.
trophys are tricky,as they are right on the change over year..you could have either or.
The modification is the ballstud location point...it makes a huge difference to the feel and length of the shift. Arguably the best mod you can do for a meganesport..

Ktec just sells the phase 2 item..i don't think the phase 1 actuator,or linkage are available anymore...but this should go straight in to your car..

as I said, the phase 2 linkage,is 10 times bigger than the phase 1..the pick is obviously a phase 2..note the single spring actuator..

how do the cables come of the ball studs?

and how do you remove the linkage. it is a split spring pin that holds in on to the actuator?

  5. squeeze either side of the cable attachment to rlease the jaws that clamp round the bullstud..DO NOT prise it off..seen dozens of broken clips due to this.
Linkage is held to actuator with a double roll pin..drive out the inner roll pin first..then the outer with drifts or small drill bits

  6. Hi,

Just wanted to know if this helps with the stiff gearstick movement in neutral or is it a separate fix?

    Thanks

  7. buying the ktec unit would eliminate the stiff movement,as you get a new actuator that causes the stiffness. You can fix it yourself, easily though.
Do a search, you should be able to find a picture guide thread on here ,how to do it.

  8. Thanks a million, I'll have a look for it.

  9. Thanks for the help got it in the post today. Hopefully get to fit it tomorrow.

When i remove the old one can i sell it back to them or is there anyone that needs one?

  10. put it in the for sale section..or PM boardy..he might want it for his shortshift service.
Make sure you read the guide on how to fit these..its not to hard, but I have seen all manner of fk ups,so be carefull.
I think there is a guide on here,my guide is on the other site..

  11. How much would you want for yours?

  12. i have to get it out first but id be open to a reasonable offer.

i'll post a picture of it when its out.

  13. Thanks for that mate.

yeah I would be interested once you have got them changed over, if you have any problems with the fitting give me a shout and I will talk you through it.

  14. £130 new from Renault,so bare that in mind..and yours will also need a refurb.
Only the linkage is of value really, and even then, someone will need a cnc machine to convert it to a shortshift.

  15. I just got around to fitting the shortshifter from Ktec. Feels great, can hardly believe the improvement it is to the car love it.

    Thanks for the help.

If anyone wants the one i took out i'll post it to the uk for £60. Let me know i can put up pictures if you want to see it.

Andrewjeffs, any feedback on changing a complete ph2 actuator for a ph1 on a ph2 gearbox?

  17. If you have a phase 2 actuator fitted to a phase 1 car, then that should be the single spring later design actuator.
The gearboxes are the same NDO box for both the phase 1 and 2,
So if you have the fitment guide, the procedure is the same
