Just thought I'd give you guys a heads up to check the scuttle drains in your Meg's especially with all this constant wet weather. Me & my brother both checked ours today (225 & R26) & they were well and truly blocked with a fair bit of water sitting in the scuttle area. Managed to get them unblocked and running free. Nah I just leave the nut on a couple of threads then slowly wiggle the arm free. FLOL at £20 postage.
Just get a length of wire rope from a DIY store and it'll do the job just fine, and probably cost about the same too.
Checked mine today. Both completely blocked. The drivers was a nightmare to clear but it's all done now. I knew the sloshing wasn't normal after the rain.
Can you get right down the drain channel without taking the plastic panel off or is it not aligned with the holes in the plastic trim?
You need to take the panel off really, which means taking the wipers off. Some people say they have done it without, but I'm not sure how well they cleared the drains, and if they're not done properly, you will be facing the same thing again very shortly after.
Job for Sunday as my car is wet too! had to do the same with my old 197 so the job should be more or less the same
Mine still leaks but drains are clear and so is the foam nearest the bulkhead. Water now finds it way in via the door cards and drips onto the plastic sill cover and under...... Seems relentless with them. Both my car and my Mrs car has had wet foam due to this weather and the varied range of water ingress points. Had to reseal the wife's speakers today and take both sides of foam pit from under the carpet once the seats were out.
since reading this, couple of days ago, every time i step in my car, i am checking the doors, it is like a phobia now
Definitely a MK3 problem too. Mine is suffering from it at the moment though it only seems to come in when we get really heavy rain.
When the wipers and cover is removed, can the innards of the scuttle drain be removed? I think mine is torn somewhere and there's a slow leak backwards into the car. Found water in the passenger footwell again. Defo not the door anywhere and it's only the lowest part of the car that's wet. tested with a hose and no obvious leak but the passenger drain seems to be pissing out a bit high up the arch
I'm not sure what you're asking here. Why do you want to take the scuttle drain apart? Is there water in the scuttle area when you take the wipers and the cover off? This water comes in through the cabin air intake which should look like a black plastic oblong slot. It runs through this and down into the bottom of the car - the floor pockets are usually the first place.
There's a rubber (?) or something inside the drain. If that's torn then water is leaking down outside of it. Hence wanting to check if it is. Found a guide online
On the nearside scuttle drain hole,i found the wiper motor cable,goes down the same hole. Is everyone else the same?. Does not seem the best of ideas.Does it go through the bulkhead,through a grommet?.
Nope, remove the cover that covers the speaker, just prise away from door car, remove speaker & refit (:
Seems to be a french car thing, mrs NJH's 207 GT has some severe water sloshing sounds going on every time you turn a corner. Seems like I have two cars to work on for this.
maybe a stupid question, but the scuttle drain pipes - what are they made of? can you damaged them using anything hard (like the pusher linked on page 1) to push down inside to clear any blocks just ordered the pusher and want to do this asap, dont think I have an issue but better safe than sorry, do you really need a wiper puller or can they be lifted with a flat edge screwdriver?
They are rubber, so could get damaged, I pulled the drivers side out and cleaned it, goes back in with a bit of wiggling, ideally you need a wiper puller, it makes it so much easier.
Grr. Wiper removal tool was shit. Bent while trying to take off the first wiper, ended up using a spanner and hammer :/ Slight leak at the middle join on the passenger drain, fixed up and sealed around the wiper cable at the top. Ran a cable thru the middle drain but couldn't get under the car enough to check the hose itself. Found a few drops of water on the bottom of the glove box - is it my aircon tray? I don't run the aircon but I assume the heater setup is all the one system? How does the glovebox come out? 3 screws at the front I removed but it didn't budge after that. and I presume i need to remove the centre console trim to get to the aircon tray? thats two screws near the OBD connector and should pull off then?
You need to take off 2 pieces of the side pax trim first before you can get the glove box out. Its trim right next to the bonnet release, and then the trim on the side of the dash with the airbag sticker on it. Its 4 torx for the glovebox then and it comes out pretty easy
Started doing mine was a bit of a pain taking everything apart and the wiper tool I got was not the best, passenger drain was totally clear but drivers side is very blocked. Tried a metal pusher I got but it does not push past the block, just put some sink and drain unblocked in so hopefully that will sort it otherwise I have no idea apart from taking the whole thing out
Well it's very blocked, the drain unblocker did nothing and can't force the wire past the block. How do you remove the entire drain?
