Hi guys, I am new to the forum and was wondering if any of you guys could help me. I have just bought an rs250 and there is some condensation in the headlight and I have realised I need a new one as the seals have gone. They are the xenon headlights so am I right in thinking that all I need is the reflector headlight housing ? If so does anybody know of where I can get one? Or if I'm wrong any advise on what I would need to do would be appreciated. Thanks Matt
If I was you I'd consider simply removing the headlight, drying it out. Using silicon packs you get in trainers or anything like that you buy is a simple option, or if your not scared you can put it in over which I've previously done with lights. Then I'd seal them back up. I'd never use silicon though! use something called Butyl tape its basically a strip you lay across the headlight (looks like vacuum hose), you then stick headlamp in the oven at 150c for about 2 minutes, it'll make it tacky for you to press and seal and bond in all the places you want. Then in future if you ever want to remove it or open the headlight all you need to do is apply heat and it peels off easy. Depends how adventurous you want to be I guess
Thanks Andy. I did take it out and dry it and resealed. I think there must be a hairline cracking or something on the actual front of the light. I.e a part that is visible. Also some of the plastic has gone a bit 'hazy' best way I can describe it. So even when all of the water has gone it doesn't look brilliantly clear like the other one. So I've just resigned myself to buying a new one. Having a quick look online makes me believe I need a projector housing but trying to get hold of one seems impossible.
My passenger one has condensation in it but barely noticeable just now. Just a tiny bit in the corner and round the edge at the front. With mine I can see like a small crack on the underside of the headlight near the front, like the bit that sits ontop of the gloss back part of the front bumper. Can see it against the black if you look closely.
Not sure what to do with it yet, but definitely not paying 300+ for a brand new xenon unit right now for how bad it is that's for sure.. But it will annoy me more and more.
You don't have to pay for the full unit though do you? Since we have all the other bits, don't we just need a reflector housing ?
I have a set of standard clear 250 headlights if you wanted for say £75 delivered, you could remove the housing from them perhaps if the same? Might be cheaper option I changed mine to ones with black inserts.
Unsure, would that not mean breaking it open and having to put it back together/reseal it again once all the bits are mounted in. I dunno, seems a lot of hassle to me. But i'm more of a pay someone else to do it right rather than piss about with things i'm unsure of kinda guy haha...
Are they the projector type ? If all I have to do is take out the old one and put in the new one I would definitely have them off you. From what I can see my xenon lights seem to have a little bulb in the middle which is different to the standard halogen ones. Can this part be removed and put back in without effecting the seals ?
