Hi all, Im looking for some advice on what to do next regarding a Ktec exhaust failure. My 3" catback exhaust rear silencer bracket has failed, resulting in my exhaust now resting on the rear bumper! For the last 4 months I have been trying to sort this issue with Ktec, but due to them making a mistake on my invoice and the surname being wrong, they're now telling me Im not entitled to warranty on a part I purchased. Does anyone know where I stand legally regarding this issue and whether Thanks steven
If you're not getting anywhere after 4 months I'd be just getting it welded myself and boycott said company. Surely they know the address even if it was the wrong name?
Iv said this to them and post it to the address on the receipt, but they won't do that. its a joke, just how little companies care after they have your money! i was going to buy the front pipe with 200cell, but not anymore!
Yeah 4 months trying to sort this! The car hardly turns a wheel. the blackbox needs removed to weld it, so might get costly.
So I'm clear the hanger from the exhaust has broke? if so and depending on mileage and age I would think KTec should rectify the issue. If it's 2-3 years old then wear and tear can happen although it would only be a case of them or a local company welding on a new hanger arm. If the bracket / rubber mount has perished and failed (car side) I don't think you have a leg to stand on. In the past when I've changed to an aftermarket exhaust for example an Eisenmann on my M3 the increase in vibration + fact I'd disturbed the rubber mount lead to it perishing and failing around 3 months later. 4 months is a very long time though and the fact the surname is wrong on the invoice that would be irrelevant if you opted for legal action. Same way as me providing a friend with a receipt and faulty item to return to say John Lewis they can't turn around and state the chaps not me therefore wash hand of said problem. If the product and receipt match up thats satisfactory. How many places do you shop where you give your name and address anyway? Supermarkets, clothes shops, etc. name is irrelevant as is in the invoice. The invoice is a request for payment hence they can be issued before goods are provided. Your receipt by card payment / cash and anything stating 'paid in full' makes it a receipt. I must admit I'm sad and keep a folder of everything I've bought and a point of reference should one day a part be removed or wording changed I can reference it from the time I bought it back to point of sale. For the exhaust I bought it states. I take that as I read it.
The rear silencer skin has failed and the bracket has been detached from the silencer (around the world) Exhaust rubbers are like new and have covered around 6000 miles... i have every receipt for the car, totalling around £15k!!
On a side note, what happens if your a female customer, get married and move home. Your name and address from point of sale to future date would both be different. It's not a cause for rejection of claim. Claims generally take time and money, my Nissan GT-R gear box had a solenoid issue I read the fault code and told Nissan, they decided a clutch learn would be a good idea during the learn it bent and broke one of the shift forks for the even gears. They left my GT-R up on ramps with no transmission sump, no oil and half a tonne of metal fillings in a tray and then said we're not fixing under warranty because I had a few mods done. Long story short, 12 weeks later solicitors involved Nissan basically gave me a new gearbox 'as a gesture of goodwill' and what worked out around £17,000 of damages / costs. This was in 2011. If you know your right and you have the time, follow it up all the way I would say. Most don't and thats why companies can get away with things. Although in honestly in your case I'd just pay a welder £15 and be done with it, my situation was the case of a £20,000 box back then so bit different lol
Product defect then, can you speak with Miltek they make the Ktec exhausts. Although I guess they'll fob you off and say you need to go through the distributor. For £15 you can get clamps that basically go all the way around the back box and have a hanger on them so you can slide it where you want into place then tighten up. Not the point I know as it's principle but would be a very cheap solution without the need to weld.
Well there certainly not doing themselves any favours that's for sure as the tinterweb is huge. One bad word spreads like wildfire. I certainly won't be using them as long as I'm a renault owner. Terrible customer service indeed.
It's more about principle with this now. i know a couple of exhaust builders, but the time they remove the rear bumper, remove the back box, repair the skin, reweld the bracket, reassemble and hope the exhaust tailpipes sit level, it will still cost. so many variables with a name on a receipt and even an address. Piper say the claim has to go through Ktec and won't deal with the issue directly.
This is the reason I buy everything from RSTuning, as Paul knows me and the car and would deal with the issue straight away.
@Steven878 Facebook message David Kirk directly (owner of ktec). but tbh if it isn't that new I'd do the above and pay a welder a small fee.
I'm still dealing with Ktec via email, but it's going nowhere. lifetime warranty doesn't seem to be worth the paper it's printed on though.
Well it's on Facebook page, so I'm sure he will be in contact if he doesn't like the publicity. i just want the warranty honoured
My mate had a 3" Ktec where the rear bracket failed I'll find out what he did if they don't pay I'd just small claims it.
David kirk is now involved and going to see if he can sort it tomorrow for me. I don't know why Ktec are bein difficult, as the issue is with piper and they just need to send out the part.
