AST 5200 Megane R26 Setting

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by dodottiR26, Jan 14, 2016.

  1. As mentioned in the post of presentation, I took for my R26 a coilover kit AST5200, I would like to know who used it in that way you have it set as adjustments and height of the car for track use.
I accept all kinds of advice, thanks to all :smile::smile:

  2. Your English is better than my Italian, 5100 kit -2.5 camber, 1mm toe out, from floor through wheel centre to arch centre 650mm front, 660 rear giving a 10mm rake to the front, hope this helps, this is what Curtis at AST in the UK set my last set up too.
    cheers
    steve

  3. Hello Steve, thanks for the reply, my English is to google .... ahahahah.
For the setup, I understand only the camber that goes to -2.5 degrees.
For heights from where I take? from under the car to the ground, or from the mudguard to the center of the wheel? As convergence as you adjusted? The caster you left it original? Thank you.

  5. Ride Height: From the ground, through the centre of the wheel till the arch, as in the picture

Toe: -0.1 Total (same as Steve said, different way of saying it)

Clio Cup Race car has -0.2 total Toe (-0.1 on each side), this would be VERY aggressive. I would start with -0.1 ( -0.05 on each side)

  6. Cheers Papps, caster left as original, toe out 1mm , it will make it a little sharper on turn in, hope this helps

  7. ok, now I get it, I told you, in this forum are awesome !!!!! Let me know also the data of caster and convergence.

  8. Cheers Papps again , I would of done some arrows like you did but I've no idea how to do it, (smart arse) lol

  9. Thanks Papps and Steve, now everything is clear, understood everything.
Another tip: I Kit Power flex black, advise me to mount it with the coilover AST 5200?

  10. Haha,

    no Problem mate!.

Engine Mounts: I would suggest the 'Vibra Technics' engine mounts. However, Ktec have the exact same for the cheapest price £354 for all 3 mounts : http://www.k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=3950&appid=12

This is a Vibra Technics product with a 'Ktec' sticker (Ktec Branding only).

Powerflex inserts for engine mounts have good feedback, people like them - but, for track only car, the stronger Vibra-Technics would be more suitable.

Did you mean the beam bushes?

  11. I didn't really understand what you wrote.

Suspension Bushes: (lower arm bushes, beam bushes etc) Black would be the best for track car. Powerflex fit very well on the megane.

  12. just checking, sure its 'mm' and not 'minutes' toe ?? 0.05mm is 4 minutes toe which is fairly aggressive pre side.

  13. 1mm =6 minutes

  14. -0°05' on each side (Front Wheels ONLY).

    -0°10' in total

I've no idea how the other metrics work

  15. thanks the info papps , the kit Powerflex Black already have, I did not take the support engine and gearbox, so I'll take the Vibra Technics

  16. perfect, that's right, unfortunately it's me that I do not understand:smile:

  17. I think to start with 0.5 for each side

  18. 0.05 per side

  19. NJH

    NJH

60 minutes in a degree so 5 minutes is 1/12th of a degree or or 0.0833 degrees or so.

  20. Hello John, I will leave from 0.5 per side.
I really like how you've changed your car, I saw some of your photos on the track, really impressive.

  21. pornography mechanical Megane R26 ......:wink::wink:

  22. 1mm = 6' with 22" wheels
    1mm = 8' with 18" wheels

  23. Which spring rate did you choose? 8kg front/rear or stiffer?

  24. Hello Sokol, given the experience of Curtis in AST I preferred to choose him for the spring load and it was done:
    front 150/80
    rear 180/80

  25. Thank you.I thought you went stiffer

  26. Curtis went hard on you, but I trust him a lot so I go well, I'll know after having tried:wink:

  27. I would not know

  28. 448 lbs

  29. This is what I run with my 5100 setup. Spring rates as Curtis supplies which iirc is 450lb front and rear. I've got tye optional DDP pistons and adjustable top mounts too.

Ride height approx 630mm to the centre of the arches all around on 235/40-R17 tyres

  30. Did you have any problems getting the coilovers from Curtis?

  31. No they took about 3-4 weeks from Holland

  32. hello, I have only seen your answer, but you've got a Megane RS or a R26? As you stand with 17-inch alloy wheels and tires 235/40 R17? Hello

  33. Hi guys, I finally mounted the coilovers to the machine, but in mid steering wheels touch me somewhere I think the passing wheel, as you have solved?

  34. You need to run 5mm wheel spacers to clear the drop link bracket

  35. as john says, you need 5mm spacers

  36. The spacer is a change that to me never liked you, I changed quini alloy wheels with OZ Racing Alleggerita ET55:smile:

  37. You guys running the PMS 5mm ones - is it the fronts only that I would need?

  38. Good work!

Have you had a trackday to try the new suspension yet?

  39. hello mate, I have the first track from Sunday 21, I tried a little 'road and it looks like a scalpel, very very very precise, only in acceleration on the straight I have to correct a lot of the steering, but with this RACING structure is normal, hope that works behind, with the measures that you have given me it seems a bit 'high.
