Ktec remap

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Car.crash, Jan 2, 2016.

  1. Does anyone have any first hand experience of ktecs remaps on a 225.
Quite fancy getting mine done but won't travel up to Leeds from west London.
Mid you've used them, what sort of figures did you get on a standard car?

  2. Have a search, you wont find many speaking highly of them

it cant be much further driving to leeds instead of ktec surely, an extra 45-60mins?

  3. Over an hour extra each way.

I had had a search but none pointed to first hand problems.
    Just rumours and hear say.
Ktec always take an unnecessary bashing on all forums.
I don't have issues with them but want to make sure I get the right product for my needs.

  4. How do you know they take an 'unnecessary' bashing if you are asking for a review on them?

are all the people on 'all the forums' wrong?

  5. I'm just looking for first hand experiences on their maps not a fight or a debate. I'm open to options on a remap but Leeds is a long way unless a group buy happens again then I would consider given the hefty discount that's been managed.

  6. I wasnt arguing, just quoting you. If they get a bashing on multiple forums they cant all be wrong right?

not many people on here speak highly of them so take from that what you will!

everyone seems happy with RST and like you say, another group buy makes it even more inviting!

OP I live about 15 min north of K-tec and drive up to the Farnborough area every few weeks. Getting to this part of the country is hugely dependent on time of day/week because unfortunately you have to negotiate one of two or three places prone to really bad snarl ups (A303 Stonehenge/Salisbury/A31). I have done my trip in 1hr 15min sometimes but it could easily be double that on Fridays, somehow I have got used to the idea over the past 15 years that I never ever end up east of here on a Friday afternoon needing to get home. Having said that I got caught out behind a lorry fire that closed the M1 when I was coming back from Leeds, spent 2 and a half hours sat in Leicestershire crawling along. About 1 min up the road from Ktec is the Badger brewery and 15 to 20 south Poole Quay, always a nice place to be on a summers evening.

  8. Parents are quite close to there and it gives me time to see them and it's a nicer journey than Leeds but pointless of the product is not up to the job.

Still undecided on who to use.

    There's no smoke without fire.

  10. To be fair the K-TEC someone from there (iirc) recently posted to say that hadn't had any issues specifically relating to their maps. As with all these subjects they can get quite out of hand. Don't forget they are also not the only ones remapping and other companies can map your car without issue too.

  11. I've had/got maps on both my megs, the 225 trophy I had I drove down to rst for the map and I enjoyed the rude there and back Paul knows his stuff and I had no probs with the map!
Then on my current 250 I've got k-tech map, cooler and exhaust they've been on the car a couple year now without any probs so for me it would just depend on price and location! I nearly drove down to k-tech to buy a 250 until I seen the one I've got now a little closer to home!

  12. I had K-Tec map my car around 2-3 weeks ago, it made 332ft-lb torque and 314.1bhp. Before it was mapped it made 260ft-lb torque and 252bhp. 72ft-lb torque and 62.1bhp improvement was really please.

Since then I've been on track at Rockingham and racked up around 700 miles without issue, 6th gear now pulls like a train as well which is nice feature when on motorway.

I've seen others producing different powers, and the graphs and all I'll say on the matter is I'm really happy with mine, the power curve is completely smooth and the torque peaks at 2,700rpm and holds firm all the way to 5,500rpm before it starts to decline where at 6,500rpm it's still higher than what it was pre-map at the highest point.

I had it tested alongside my GT-R which took work the following day elsewhere on a different dyno to check the results were fair and the difference were nominal in fact I've listed above the 'lower' of the figures to be fair. However different dyno's, ambient temperatures, etc will effect figures all be it a small amount.

As said can only comment on my personal experience, I've not used RS Tuning therefore I can't do any form of comparison. I spoke to both companies however on the phone with the same questions and based on those and efficiency of e-mail response and communications I chose K-Tec who were very accommodating.

  13. Nice! I bet you noticed that!!

  14. That's some serious power increase.
May I ask what other mods you have to achieve such a high number? Or does the 250 engine gain so much from a simple map compared to what you get on the 225 engine.

  15. 250's totally different to the 225 engine, also Different mappers rollers can have very different results.

  16. Of course you can ask doesn't mean I'll tell

I also had full exhaust system, decat, inlet pipe and cold air intake in terms of things that would make a difference, not sure my Candyfloss air freshener made much difference or de-badging the 'Megane' letters off the back has increased performance in weight reduction :tongueout:

  17. Inlet pipe?

  18. I presume it means the intake pipe to the turbo.

  19. Ok, so what does that do to help etc?

  20. It's larger and smoother in very basic and simple terms.

    Larger = More air
    Smoother = Quicker flow

The motor is basically a giant air pump so therefore the more air you can feed it and the quicker, then the more potential power you can yield. I can't say what power benefits there will be and I would imagine it's minimal but at the time of fitting a cold air intake kit it made sense for the cost of the pipe.

  21. Thanks. Just googled them, nearly £100?!

Is the K-tec mapping done live as Paul at RS does or is it just flashing in a new file? I think this would be the determining factor for me as anything other than live mapping will likely not work on anything other than a bone stock car but even on a stock engine live mapping is much more successful.

  23. It was put on the dyno and tested for a base figure. It was then mapped on the dyno and made 'x' figure, taken out onto the road for a spin to check data and make sure the anti-pollution light didn't appear then returned back onto the dyno for final tweaks where it made a further 4bhp.

  24. I've got a ktec map on my 225, it made 266bhp and 313lb/ft. It's been on for over 3 years and 60,000 miles. Really smooth delivery and had no issues. Map was done on rolling road with before and after runs.

  25. you can't live maped 225 and 250 megs. You have to make a pull, log it, re write the map and flash it.

  26. Or £60 on ebay.

  27. The MTC ones?

  28. Yea,the MTC one's.

  29. OP, just as another suggestion, Engine Dynamics may also be worth a look as much closer to you (Kelvedon, Essex), recently had my car mapped by them and was happy with the service/end result.

  30. My 225 had a ktec tune done by the previous owner over 3-4 years ago (I have the car 2 years now), doesn't miss a beat, can't fault it but have nothing to compare it to.

  31. Any idea if these are quality or not ? It says they are.. haha. I don't want to spend 60 quid to find they don't even fit properly.

  32. Middle section of the silicon pipe looks fraction smaller than the KTec one but wont' make much difference, looking at the shape of it looks identical I can't see it not fitting but pay via paypal and raise refund if it doesn't.

Looking at it 99.9% section you'll have no issue

  33. That's some pretty good results! I think I may get them to map my car, the service there is fantastic!
