Stage 2 on a 225

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by luke15000, Dec 29, 2015.

  1. Hi all,

Does anyone know what is needed to reach stage 2 on a 225?

    Thanks
    Luke

  2. IC, Injectors, turbo and remap i'd assume

    giving stage 3 forged parts?

I'm not a fan of using "stages" in terms of engine modifications - quite an ambiguous way of determining modifications and sharing information when discussing with people. My opinion anyway

  3. usually for a `stage 2` from RS Tuning, you would need uprated intercooler, and bigger injectors as standard injectors would be pushed to max.
As for the logic of adding a stage 2 to a old 225,its always a controversial subject.

As over 300lb/ft is widely thought to be to much for standard internals.

I personally think a 225 without the LSD and its more ragged chassis compared to a R26,is a right handful with such a increase in power.

  4. I'm about to go through the same process Andrew. Getting a decat and FMIC next month and then get it mapped. Mines an 05 Trophy so no LSD but it could definately do with a bit more power.

Do you think its a controversial subject due to the lack of LSD ?

  5. I've been running near 280-290 without a LSD and it does like to try and push on, even with slicks.. through long fast corners.. Means difference in staying flat out or having to lift (lifting makes bad stuff happen as we all know)
And struggles with power delivery exiting most tight bends.. Gonna be putting a plated diff in now in the new year.. Suits me better than a atb for circuit racing..

Instead of wasting money on a different turbo spend it on an lsd

  7. how about asa daily driver though? I'm not going to track day mine. Will the lack of LSD really effect everyday driving? I just want a bit more poke for when I'm on a roads etc

  8. You will be fine on the roads, I've got a 225 and i can see where the lsd would really make a difference and would be needed on track but for everyday driving you will be fine. Stage 1 is a must on these cant imagine going back to standard 225 now.

I put some cooksports on and NS2-R tyres and im happy with that setup it handles great.

  9. Unlike say Revo where mods are listed for each stage, the megane seems to be a bit more obscure in this regard.

However if your going for stage 2 you would normally need decat, uprated injectors, new r26r clutch in time to handle the power, maybe 250 turbo.

All meganes are going to be different depending what sort of health the engine is in i guess and lot of people dont like the stage talk as i guess there reasoning maybe your not always going to bolt on certain mods and get the required gains to hit the stages etc

Mine made 272 hp & 280lb/ft torque considered around stage 1 with cat back, fmic, recirc valv, caf, modified air box with panel filter. Paul at RS tuning said i could go to stage 2 but wouldnt see much more BHP but would see a slight increase in torque.

We both decided it wasnt worth it until i had all the supporting mods, like I mentioned earlier. I decided im going to stick with the power i have now as its quick enough for the road without going too silly.

I would probably ask what sort of power your after and what mods you want to do, then once mapped you can then relate it to what stage it would be considered.

  10. Thanks for all the above information guys.

Ideally I would be looking at 280bhp, at the moment I have the airbox mod, uprated fmic and standard exhaust with resonators removed and back box removed.

  11. All being well i would of thought a decat and injectors to that list would see you get 280hp

  12. I'm planning just a decat, FMIC and the map. I already have a ram air on there now. Can't wait to finally get it mapped

  13. All you need for stage 2 is FMIC.I made with RSTuning stage 2 40.000 km with a lot of track days without one problem.

  14. My r26 made 265hp/285lb/ft with no mods with a stage 1

.I drove from devon to leeds to get it done by RS Tuning.Always best to have it tuned on the rollers...this will also show up any defects before tuning...mine actually had a weak injector..but still made those figures.

power delivery night and day difference..been on the car 6 years..no trouble.

I have 255bhp on the Trophy with just a remap.

I've got an ITG kit to go on when I can be arsed (the proper one to the bumper) and I planned on getting a FMIC as Paul is reluctant to remap and more without one. I'm not really planning on doing anything else bar that but I expect to see another 20bhp.

At worst I would be prepared to stick a set of 630cc injectors in there just so it stops spewing out standard injectors but I don't see why anything else is required.

  16. Decat, Ktec induction kit and back box chop and mine is 272/285. Decat is the best power mod, mine gained 10bhp and 15lb ft.

  17. decat is a great mod really unlocks the power on these just a ball ache come mot time unless you know friendly testers etc.

you will make north of 250hp with no mods, but best to bolt mods on first obviously before tuning to make a bit more on stage 1.

  18. Paul was telling me not much point in 630's unless you running decat?

It changed like the wind though, one day you need injectors another day you don't!

I don't like the fact the standard injectors are pushing their upper limits all the time if you increase the boost.

Reading around all of this and the gains people have got it sounds like he says that about the decat and injectors as the gains otherwise are small, seems the cars do need a better IC though, he told me to look into it if I am tracking the car a lot which makes huge sense as the heat load on track is enormous compared to anything you will see on the road. Personally I am not convinced there is a great deal of point in spending a lot of money to get an incremental gain over stage 1, hence why I was happy for a stock to remap job from Paul and will look at the IC soon. I gained 33 Bhp and near enough 45 lb/ft on the remap over stock, everything else bone stock on that engine. The next best step seems to be to go for a 250 turbo or hybrid turbo to make another big jump and speaking purely for myself I feel like I would need to see a similar jump as from stock to remap to make spending money in that area seem worthwhile.

  21. lol yes i know what you mean.

I get what your saying that make sense
