Coming back from Hartley Witney yesterday when one of these filled my mirrors. Infront of me happened to be an old style Astra vxr, we reached a section of dual-carriageway and everyone floored it, we left the VXR behind but the S1 would not go away, I don't know what they're packing under the bonnet but that thing can shift, I was going all out but he started to just edge past me in my 250. I wasn't really expecting that and wondered if the guy may have remapped it, either way, a good little blat.
I'd thought I would have just nicked it, the Audis down on power, plus my 250 made 265 on a RRoad so has a bit more bhp, guessing it must be a bit lighter and maybe the all wheel drive helps, even in a straight line.
If they are anything like my previous S3, then the clutch could only just handle the standard power! Did slip a bit now & then. But trying to get it to do it with one of the chaps in it from Audi wasn`t ever going to happen.
With the 4 wheel drive and that sort of remap that would be a beast of a car, odinson, I know you've done extensive work on your Meg, how's the drivability with 400ish bhp going through the fronts?
I'm surprised they haven't done a RS1 yet ? Seem to RS every Audi model now ! My B5 RS4 was limited to just 400 cars in the UK but ended up being 530ish. Quick cars the S1 but i would much rather have the 250 cup
My mate owns a sport Quattro ! Worth stupid amounts of cash ! He's also the owner of QSTuning and the main uk dealer of MTM
I remember back in the 90`s when i was a regular at GTI international, Dialynx had a sport quattro that did 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. Those were the days.
S model audis are a force to be reckoned with. Had a play with an S3 the other day and off the line I had no chance but I did start to pull on him 3rd gear onward. Still think the DSG fart makes it sound cack.
S1's look mint! I would of thought it would be similar if not the s1 just pip it vs a 250 due to the weight. Great cars just a little small for me. Pagey - what s3 was it? I think my next baby could very well be the 8v 300bhp one. I had an in gear run with a sportback one with 5 lads in VS me on my own in standard 250 and from about 20 - 70 we was neck and neck and after 70 I was left standing. Then we had a standing start and......
He's had no problems with the clutch as far as I'm aware ? I will ask him if it's ever slipped Audi clutches are usually bullet-proof ? Well they are for the older models I've had no problems at all with my clutch ! I'm still on original clutch and my car is running 496ps and 517lbs/ft torque.
A year after my S3(2008 model) went on, the new owner contacted me regards the car, & informed me it had to have a new clutch with less than 50k on the clock!
How did you find the S3 ? I was going to buy one but got the R26 instead as I wanted something fun and cheaper to maintain. also I always fancied a R26 just love the way they look. My mate has recently bought a S3 which is mapped to about 310bhp he says it's fast but haven't been in it yet.
Deceptively quick, but very sterile. Unless you checked the speedo, you wouldnt know if you were doing 70 or 150(private track). My misses loved it, for how `safe` it felt & the build quality & the looks. The dealers were the usual `our shit don`t stink brigade`( my experience). I couldnt give a toss about a f*cking cappucino or comfy leather sofa`s, just repair my car correctly & don`t fob me off with bullshit! In four years from new, we had numerous visits to the dealers, foam falling out from under the drivers seat which they had several attempts to fix but never did(also giving it back with trim they broke whilst trying to fix it), electric window sensors, new steering rack & front strut & the brakes were shit. The Megane 250 we have is a totally different car, always puts a smile on my face driving it, especially with what it will let you do to it.
I've had 3 audi's, A3 1.8T, original S3 and B5 RS4. Audi dealers are the worst ! I would never take my RS4 there they wouldn't have a clue. I've always used MRC tuning. i wouldn't buy another Audi ! megane 250 cup is next in a couple of years time or a 275 ? Before I bought the R26 I did take a S3 for a test drive and it felt like a blunt instrument compared to the Meg ! Terrible feedback from the steering and just boring.
Depends what you want a car for? Get in it & drive from A to B feeling all safe & comfy(Audi) & boring, or something that is going to put a smile on your face every time you drive it, & also gives you the giggles when you drive it properly i.e. a drivers car.
It was 15 plate so 300 bhp. AWD seems the way forward on roads considering the amount of rain we get. The cupra really struggles off the line in the wet. I wouldn't mind an s3 by any means altho would have to compare a golf r at the Same time
yes an original sport Quattro. Worth over £200k I believe maybe more haven't looked at the value of them lately.
