Afternoon all. I've pretty much decided it's time to sell my R26 - I've only done 3k miles this year, it gets driven to work and back then parked up. My wife has the next year off with our baby and she has a brand new car, so the Meg isn't going to get any more use - I might as well buy myself a cheap(er) 197 or something. The thing is the prices I see them advertised at - and what do they actually sell for, so the 'what's my car worth' thread probably isn't much use. Mine is a LY, 50,900 miles with full stamped history and loads of bills from Mark Black in the 21/2 years I've owned it. It has an R26 private plate, and I'll take it to Mark and get it serviced again (only done less than 3000 since last service), put 2 new Michelin PSS on, got some pads knocking around so I'll put discs on the front too, plus get any small niggles sorted. Basically it'll want nothing spending on it whatsoever - the wheels have been refurbed in gloss black with matching mirror caps, door bullets and badge covers, tpi polarised bolts + lockers, miltek decat + back box chop with RS tuning map to 272/285 etc etc. Looking at the ads in the Trader and EBay a dealer would be asking £7,500+ easily, but what's the realistic private sale value? I'll be in no rush to sell and would happily take a deposit until after Christmas, or wait a couple of months to sell. Cheers for any replies. Rob
I reckon you'd get 7 for it easily looking at the market now. Some traders are asking closer to 10 for mint ones, and there's one at targa florio for 12 with similar mods to yours. I think start at £7,250 and be open to offers!
Cheers for the reply! I was looking at ads last night and prices are all over the place, I can only assume there are a fair few rough R26's around now they're getting on a bit. I just didn't want to spend £500 on it getting it ready for sale so it wants nothing, then end up getting £6k for it!
Well mines going up for sale in spring, and I'm doing the same, spending £4-500 on it next week to make sure it needs nothing doing when it goes up for sale. Mines done just over 59k though and has a bit of gravel rash but it's probably not worth sinking £500 in to just to get an extra £200! Liquid yellows are worth more too!
Other than a scuff on the bottom of the front bumper the bodywork is excellent on mine, and in the last 3,000 miles it'll have had a service including plugs and brake fluid, wheels refurbed, decat and map tweak at RS Tuning, lambda sensor, tpi polarised bolts + lockers, probably other stuff I've forgotten and I've just ordered two Michelin PSS and a pair of Brembo HC front discs (got some Brembo pads to go on already). I'll also get it serviced again when I book it in with Mark Black this week plus a couple of other minor bits I want sorting. The cambelt was done at Cooksport in 2013 so doesn't need doing until 2018. I've got two sets of RS mats, plus the original back box and airbox to go with the car (car has a KTec induction kit on). Literally the only bad points will be the scuff on the bumper and some marks on the interior plastics, the leather on the Recaros is absolutely mint with no bolster wear whatsoever. Couple of pics from the summer, you can just see the scuff on the underside of the bumper on the passenger side - I have enquired about having it painted, but both places said they'd mask the decals and the blending in would leave paint lines if the decals were removed - I wouldn't want a new owner to remove them and get a nasty surprise so I haven't had it done. Tbh if I spend £500 this week (might end up being more, the tyres and discs just cost £300 tonight!) and get £7k for it I'll be happy.
That's encouraging cheers! Now booked in with Mark Black and £300 spent last night on tyres and front discs. I'm also getting Mark to put a new window reg on as the drivers side plays up now and again. Hopefully I won't get too big a bill haha!
The engine bay gets detailed too haha. I'll see what it costs me to get it mechanically perfect then think about the price.
^^^^Cheers! Took it to Marks this morning, and got the news I was hoping not to hear - it needs a new clutch too! It went stiff at the bottom over the last week or two and Mark bleeding it hasn't made any difference, so I'm having an R26.R clutch and flywheel put in. Plus an oil service (last service was 2,500 miles ago in March - shows how much I've driven it!) osram nightbreaker headlight bulbs and Cree LED sidelights, 2 Michelin PSS on the front, new Brembo HC discs and pads on the front plus a couple of niggly rattles sorted. So it's got to be one of the most sorted R26's for sale in the country, I'm going to advertise it for £7.5k and see what happens - I'm in no rush to sell it and don't need to, so I'm not bothered if it doesn't sell.
Sold mine to Revitup in August. They gave 6.5 k. The guy couldn't find any faults and gave me what had been agreed over the phone. Mine was like yours, hardly moved of the drive. It drove me potty, frightened of leaving it anywhere in case it got damaged. Quite a relief when it went. No more watching the kids in the street with the football, no more sitting in the car and guarding it whilst the Mrs went round the shops. No more watching the kids with their bikes. Best car I've ever owned though...
I had a 200 Raider too! I sold that to my mate just after the Megane went. I've gone to the dark side and gone for the new Corsa VXR. Megane is a good car but for a good one you pay at least 12k for a 10/60 plate which is too much in my opinion for a car of that age. My R26 had low mileage when I purchased it and was around 10k at just under 4 years old. Superb value I'd say! The new Clio is not my thing I'm afraid and the Fiesta ST looks crap even though they all rave about it but not my thing either. Liked the 208 GTI 30 but couldn't get one at the time in the colour I wanted. So went look at the Astra VXR. That was too much money so had a drive of the new Corsa with the Performance Pack. Very impressed! I know they have a Burberry style image but who cares. They are very quick car for the price and the interior is quite a nice place to be also. The LSD helps you through the bends like it did in the R26. However the balance/steering/grip are good but cannot match the RS models. For me Renault remains King in the hot hatch sector. Saying that I'm very happy with this little Corsa and hopefully it should last me a couple of years.
Funnily enough I saw their wanted ad on EBay last night, £6500 is a great price from a dealer but there's no way I'd let mine go for that. They have one for sale at £8450 and there's another private sale at £8400, both have a few thousand more miles than mine and I'd back mine mechanically when I get it back against both of them. I asked Mark Black to check mine over and do anything it needed, he's the only person that's touched it since I've had it apart from RS Tuning and he'd vouch for how much I've spent with him (even though his prices are really good!) I was talking to Mark yesterday and looking through some invoices, I'm having the oil changed as its due in March next year but I've only done 2,500 miles! It was MOT'd at the end of May and has done 1,500 miles in 6 months, I do 300 miles a month commuting and have had a month off when our baby was born so it's literally had no fun usage at all. It's averaged over 30 mpg in the last 4,000 miles, but I'd still be happy to keep it if it didn't sell for what I wanted.
Glad I read this, I was going to bang mine up for about 5.5k. Mine's the same but with 46k miles, except I have a few more little niggles to sort first. :-)
Lol one of my niggles was the clutch going a bit stiff at the bottom, that's ended up in a new .R clutch and flywheel Added on to the tyres, brakes, service, window reg and a few other bits and I've spent over £1300!
My mrs wants the new 200t. Funnily enough she only wants one in LY. Whilst looking I noticed they were a little more expensive. Hardly surprising, the colour is just stunning, especially when the sun comes out and brings out the pearl.
the LY was a paid optional extra on the r26. Just helps with the resale value that it is the second best colour. Glacier white being the best , natch ..
Just seen your ad, this is the first ad that's made me seriously consider selling my Meg and buying another one the same shape! It's so nice and I've always wanted ly!
Haha thanks, I put it on Gumtree and had an offer of £6.5k within 5 minutes but I'm not letting it go for that. Had a couple of others interested but it's the 'I need to sell my car first' thing. I'm in no rush to sell it anyway so I don't mind if it takes time to find the right buyer, I appreciate its one of the more expensive R26's for sale but with the work it's had done and all the paperwork/bills/low mileage its got to be worth £7k minimum.
I wouldn't even take 7! If it's as mint as it looks in the picture then 7 is cheap. There's one with 33k on for just shy of 8 but it doesn't have the history yours has. Beautiful car!
It is, the only minus points are minor cosmetic bits as I described in the ad. The colour would look even better if the sun was out, those photos were taken when it had started to rain and there was a light covering on the car. It used to belong to a guy on MeganeSport, he was the second owner and by chatting to him I found out the first owner was a mechanic (hence all the services from a non-Renault garage when it was new). The guy from MeganeSport sold it early 2013 to someone who went and got the cambelt done, then traded it in for whatever reason very shortly after and I bought it from that trader. So I even know the history of the owners! Like a lot of people on these forums I'm OCD with cars and can't stand to see it dirty, if it's wet and I pull onto the drive with spray up the sides of the car I'll get the hose out and wash it off before it dries. My mate across the road said he once timed me washing it against the slow cooker and the slow cooker won
I've just looked at your for sale thread Rob, that's an absolute corker mate, don't let it go cheap mate.
Thanks Steve, im not in a position where im desperate to sell so I don't mind waiting for the right buyer (or keeping it if it comes to that!)
I sold mine in August. Was a relief at first, no more worrying and negative thoughts about what might happen to it and how much it would cost to repair if it got badly scratched. However I hate not waking up to LY on my drive on a morning so I've just purchased a 200t in that very colour for my wife. My favourite colour of all time..
Sold to the first viewer for £7.1k. I'm happy with that, I think we both did well - he got a great car and I got a decent price. Mark Black said its the cleanest LY he's ever seen, so it shows if the car is right the money is out there still. Regardless of what I spent on it (which you would on any car anyway) I only lost £500 in over 2.5 years.
You did it right, far too many of these being priced to cheap but then again they may well be poor condition. I am like your buyer, i would just walk straight away from a car that didn't look cared for and wouldn't touch a car that hadn't been maintained properly either (as many seem to be).
Yeah I was talking to the guy that bought it, there was another LY on Ebay that looked nice, but when I looked at the photos the guy hadn't even hoovered the carpets, they were filthy. And his starting price was £6.6k, doubt he'll get any bids!
