Hi All I'm new to RS ownership only having bought an R26 a couple of months ago. So far the car has been brilliant. Unfortunately I've noticed I have rust on the leading edges of the boot lid. I am fortunate enough that the car has a full Renault service history so I am able to claim on the 12 years anti-corrosion warranty, that's said, Renault UK have 'assessed' my case by examing the rust from the photos (!) submitted by my local Renault dealership. RUK have come to the conclusion that it's 'perforation of the paint' which isn't covered by the warranty (it is as I've studied the T&C's of the warranty for our cars). I relayed this info back to RUK who then said your warranty does not cover 'outside influences such as stone chips which has caused the rust'. I'm not sure how the inner boot edges can be subjected to stone chips; obviously RUK aren't willing to play ball which I knew would be the case. I may be off the mark here, but looking at the affected areas, I would say that it looks as though the fitment of the lower plastic bodywork at the factory has scraped the paint away from the tailgate. I know for a fact that the boot has never been touched as I have been contact with the previous owner of my Megane. I've got a plan of attack which should hopefully see some resolution from RUK, however, in helping me build a case, can I ask to see who else has this issue? I've searched forums high and low to find a handful of people with the same issue, but any extra help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks for for your help, I look forward to becoming a regular visitor (minus the moaning). Cheers Sam
I and welcome Sam. I was going to post that I have heard others having had the same issue with the plastic trim, but you have obviously done your research. How bad is it? Sometimes I think it's better to cut your losses and just pay to get it done tbh. It might not be that much to get it sorted? Good luck.
Thanks mate. The rust isn't too bad, it's just a spot on either side. Renault have quoted £1k for the job as they want to replace the whole boot lid which I agree with them. There's no way of getting away with rust, in my opinion it's best to cut it out or replace the panel. I have a feeling I may need to cough up for the repairs which isn't a problem, but I'm a little annoyed that Renualt are trying to fob me off with useless excuses. Cheers Sam

Mine is the same - if I open the boot lid the lower plastic section of the bootlid looks like it's rubbed the metal and taken the paint off - boot needs to be open to see it but annoying still and will only get worse id go back to ruk and argue how it's even possible that a stone could cause that - in fact I might give them a call myself tomorrow
I took the plastic section off and got a local body shop too rub it back to the metal and respray my boot lid for 40 pounds theres two lines you can mask upto , but you cant see it anyways when back together, i have then stuck some small rubber pieces to stop this happening again...its a bad design
That would be great if you could call them. I'm dealing with the Customer Support Manager, Rebecca Pightling. Hopefully that'll back my case up! Here's the number: 0344 335 0000. If if you could let me know how you get on, I'd really appreciate it. Cheers Sam
Mine is like this went through to RUK and got blown out. Although a guy on here had the exact issue and was fixed under warranty
Don't they have a 10 year paint warranty? Surely they have to repair it if that's the case and it's original paint work
That's brilliant, thank you for the pic mate. That's a massive help! I don't suppose you remember the guy who was successful with his warranty claim do you? Sam
Hi Charlie, paintwork & anti-corrosion warranty is covered under two separate clauses. Paintwork is 3 years, anti-corrosion is 12. I just think it's going to be a long old haul trying to get RUK to pay out for this.
Hi mate, thanks for this. How did you find RUK when they offered you partial payment? Did they try fobbing you off too? I'm just curious to know how you dealt with them? Cheers sam
Found it. Carry on from page 142 http://www.rsmegane.com/showthread....done-to-your-Car-today/page142&highlight=Boot yup, just fobbed off, stated exact same issue happened to another car and was done under warranty. Said its been knocked somehow lol
Perfect, that's exactly what I was after! Cheers mate. Just had a quick read on that link, looks like they did a lovely job repairing it. Mines LY too, what a coincidence! I'll definitely be using this example in my case to RUK. Thanks again for for your help mate, it's greatly appreciated. Sam
Hi mate. Thanks for the info. Did RUK give you any problems when claiming on your warranty? I've had a bit of a lengthy phone call with them today to be told that they are not budging on their decision as the rust has started from the outside in - I'm not sure how they came to that conclusion just from a photo and the lower plastic trim still in place?!
No issues. They even said it was a common problem. Maybe phone Renault Wolverhampton or RS motors quoting my registration and ask for a job number?
They actually admitted it was a common problem? This is exactly what I needed to hear. Thanks again mate. You've been a great help. Cheers Sam
LOL - keep chasing them mate. If you believe you have a valid case, don't let them fob you off with rubbish excuses. They have agreed to send out a technician to inspect my car. I'll let you know how it goes. Cheers Sam
Hi all just wanted to let you know I had my bootlid fixed under warranty by Cardiff Renault last week - was quite surprised but they told me they didn't involve Renault uk as can authorise warranty work at the dealer up to a certain cost so we're fine bout it hope you get yours sorted Tim
I'd also check around the fuel housing. Mine had rust around the mounting point on the 1/4 panel.. Not the best pic but all around the lip was corroding.
Hi Tim That's great news! Well done mate. The only update I have at present is Renault's paint specialist is coming to view the car tomorrow to asses if they will repair my car under warranty. Can I be a bit cheeky and ask you to PM me your registration plate, as I need to backup my case as much as poss! Thanks for keeping me updated! Cheers Sam
