225 Cracked alloy is it worth wielding?

  1. Aye up, just found out one of the alloys on my 225 trophy is cracked and letting out air. Does anyone have any experience of having them wielded? Ive been told it does work, buy the guy at the tyre place. Also is an 05 trophy wheel the same as cups and r26's? I'm also looking for a good second hand one. Does anyone have one for sale? Don't think I'll cope long with my red steel spare, it looks shite.
    Cheers Mark

  2. Where are you based?

  3. Near Derby mate

  4. How much do you value your life ? Not to mention mot failure and voiding your insurance!
Is is worth it welding it up ? NO

  5. Bit of an over reaction?
as long as the ends of the crack are correctly ground/drilled to stop it propagating and welded correctly its fine and safe

  6. Is it ?
If the wheel is cracked it needs replacing due to when it's welded the temperature of the welding changes the structural integrity of the wheel and creates a week point. I personally can't understand why anyone would even think about welding up a wheel, but people do and its up to them if they want to drive about with the possibility of the wheel failing at 70+ mph on the motorway with there kids in the car!!!!!!!!!

  7. Cheap enough just to replace.

  8. Wouldn't risk it.

  9. Wow I started something!!! I'd prefer a second hand wheel, but can't find one. Anyone know of anyone selling one? Also are the trophy and r26/cup wheels the same?
