Had a play with an e46 m3.

  1. I'm not one for racing nor am I seventeen, nor do I drive like an idiot. But on the slip road joining the motorway we were pretty even to ish speed and then he left me. Considering mines not been mapped I was quite impressed really.

  2. Good job there wasn't any corners or you would have got past him lol

  3. I was genuinely impressed with how mine went tbh. I drive it like miss daisy most of the time.

  4. I'd love an M3 though
I've never seen your car about

  5. Yeah they are a nice car. I don't drive it much mate. You will probably see it even less as I'm looking to sell it. Bought another Clio for my sins

  6. did you not gel with the megane? what Clio have you bought? can I have a qiuck drive of your Trophy before it goes to compare to mine?

  7. My cousin has got one and we went for a blat after fcs. I'm in the same boat as you, don't drive like an idiot etc, but I left his car for dead round the sweeping b roads and wasn't far behind on the dual carriageway from 30-71mph or so

  8. I bought a 182 in racing blue, be my 6th Clio. I like the Megane a lot tbh but this came up at the right money. Saying that I am undecided which car to keep lol.

  9. He was definatly trying, slow to join the slip road etc. I knew he would have the edge but it was all done in nice faith

  10. funny enough I have just logged on to cliosport.net again and seen all my old posts and pics about my old RB 182 Cup. I've been thinking about another one of those too but I do enjoy the comfort and refinement of the Meg too but the 182 is great for ragging about

  11. I've not used the Megane for a week and it was awesome to drive.

  12. TBH that acceleration with the beemer is dependent on so many things, not least what gear each of you were in. Also, you'd have a lighter car which helps at lower speeds but once up to a certain point the beemer's power advantage will tell. In my RS265 I often find quite normal cars seem almost a match but if I keep my foot down they drop away very quickly.

  13. I know there are variables mate. I was just impressed with the car. I love the m3, a very nice car

  14. A remapped mk3 would actually have a better power to weight ratio with some quick calculations and way more torque. I doubt the m3 tunes very easily though.
I like the E46 shape in comparison to the E90 though, the E90 just looks a bit chubby to me and the newest M cars just do nothing for me at all.

  15. You are right about the m3 not being very tuneable. My mate has one and a remap will get very little gains. Supercharger or turbo conversion is the only way to get much more power.

  16. My car has an induction kit, forge recirc with yellow spring and back box removed. I'd say if it was mapped it would be more in my favour.

  17. I do like the E46 M3 they have aged well. My mate has a CSL and that is a very special car lucky for him it's shooting up in value

  18. Yep awesome cars.

  19. Yeah I've seen some for sale around the £50-60k mark! Crazy!

  20. Wasn't a E46 but I had a 'situation' with a late model E36 M3 cab in my standard R26.

The guy didn't look too happy when I went past him, despite his best efforts. It made my day though.

  21. Yeah they're not massively quicker. I love moments like that when you meet car people whilst driving, always good fun!

  22. Definatly. It's knowing when to stop, which he didn't. Must of thought I was chasing him for his rimz lol

  23. ha ha

Ultimately though I'd much rather have the e46 m3 than my Megane whether faster or not. They look like a special car and as Lynchy said have aged really well

  24. It's the car everyone suggests when a 'what car should I buy' thread pops up. Like a default reply lol

  25. Daz

    Daz

I had a mk7 Golf R chasing me down up a steep motorway incline tonight, he was juuuuust creeping on me when I was thankful that things needed to slow down a little, as we were going a lot faster than I thought we were!

I was fast running out of steam anyway, I need more boost now, stage 1 isn't enough anymore!

  26. Hmm maybe it's me or my car isn't running correctly, but my mate destroys me in his e46 m3 every time.

But then I barely kept up with a new Polo Gti the other day. Really hoping that thing was mapped lol

Really should get my car checked :-(

  27. Yeah definatly wasn't destroyed. Certain speed onwards he left me but I knew that would be the case.

  28. I'm looking forwards to one of these encounters......

  29. dru

    dru

I had a few an e46 m3 they are faster than megane after about 130 up to 190 don't ask me how I know lol

  30. from a standing start the e46 with win

from rolling on par with my 250 (which was running 270bhp standard)

with the E92 rolling not much in it till 100 then it just pulls 1-2 car lengths and continues

  31. Yeah my 265 is now mapped and I am pretty sure it will be extremely close to the E46 M3 I owned before.
But as mentioned the rwd does really help from a standing start. Also the sound from the M3 was infinitely better with the supersprint exhaust and Venturi induction kit

  32. I can imagine mate

  33. E46 is now a old car..simply amazing when it came out 15+ years ago..but the game has moved on.
My mate had one,and the biggest difference between his e46 and my stage 1 R26 was the grunt higher up the rev range.
The e46 just flys when wound up,with that angry engine screeming..deffo faster after 3 figures roll by.

However, the suspension was to crashy, and really struggled on typical british crap roads.
Still a fabulous car,and now he wishes he kept it,as values are shooting up.

  34. I think the main difference is the BM's have the same grunt and power from 100mph upwards whereas the Meganes run out of steam and poke at about a ton.

I'd almost become arrogant about how fast my 275 trophy is until my two recent encounters with 'eager' BMW drivers. Don't know what model but a 1 series hatchback was all over me the other day and I had to pull over as it was too too fast. Same with a 3 series the other day. Unsure if it was a 330 or 325 but it was damn quick. You can't underestimate those German engines they are quite something! Probably would corner like a Megane though but still.....

  35. Yeah three figures plus it kept pulling, did well until then. But I'm not in the habit of driving like that on a public road etc.

  36. If it was a 135i,its acceleration figured are staggering from its twin turbo lump.0-60 in just over 4secs..way over 300hp...looks like a breadvan though!
Why the hell BMW insist on using the god awful looking hatchback shape, instead of the M1`s bodyshape I don't know..

They used it with the original 135i so why change?

  37. There's nothing better then beating a BMW when I'm in the Audi ! As said the Meganes are quick up to 100 then not so past that.

  38. Because the old 135i is now the M235i - the 2 Series is now the coupe shape instead of a 1 Series Hatch and Coupe. It's a good bit more expensive than the M135i though.

  39. Those M135i are bloody quick but look so understated on the hatchbacks. The coupe is so much nicer than the hatch. the series 3 would of most likely been the 335i the 325 and 330 arent that quick. I think the 335i is only around 300hp so wouldnt of thought it would be that much quicker?

i guess its easy to get up to silly speeds quickly though

  40. I ended up along side an E46 M3 at Santa Pod last year. Filmed with a phone so not the finest quality video
