250 Michelin PSS or Toyo R888

  1. Guys, while searching for winter tires and rims I found an ad for 4 original black Renault rims with Toyo R888 tires (once used during a trackday). Price is around 500,- euros so is it worth getting theses? I'm having Michelin PSS's now and I'd like to do a trackday in the future. We all know there will be more trackdays to come and therefor I think 500,- sounds like a good deal but perhaps you can give me some help deciding.

  2. If you're using them everyday, at this time of the year, you're very, very brave going for 888's.

  3. Pss for day driving r888 track

  4. Go for Cup Sports if they do them. I've got different sets of wheels on the GT-R and on my show wheels I'm running MPSS, however on track wheels I've used Bridgestone RE070's, MPSS, R888 and Pilot Cup 2's.

Terms of grip the R888's are a fraction better than the Pilot Cup 2's however the Pilot Cup 2's are very usable in cold / wet weather. The MPSS are best all round for all seasons though. No idea if they do the Pilot Cup's in the Megane sizes though?

  5. r888s sound like all 4 wheel bearings are shagged, not pleasant to drive at constant speeds with them.

  6. Thanks for the replies!

As I was searching for winter tires with original Renault rims second hand because the dealer is a bit too expensive for me. I came up with the black set with Toyo R888 tires. I can remove the tires and fit winter tires on them. But as a track day will arrive sooner or later I thought the R888's might be better than the PSS's.

So it's not for daily use. Just for the track days.

  7. 888's will be better on track
