  1. Afternoon gentlemen!
Drove my car to filling station on one night and the next morning when I got back in it refused to start, the auto guy came and checked everything from inside out everything had power but car kept displaying CAR LOCKED or UNLOCKED on dash so decided to buy fusebox, got it last week but still nothing the starter motor cranks when he bypasses it but it won't start with key card

Assuming your battery is in good health and that the connections are good, if you've pulled out the UPC, the only other item is the steering lock module.

The generic message you mention, are you sure its not "STEERING NOT LOCKED"?

    Mick

  3. Try pulling on the steering wheel hard when pressing the start button.

  4. Mick I forgot to mention that its both STEERING LOCKED and STEERING UNLOCKED but I can hear the clicking sound from the steering column however the steering is never locked

  5. Will try that tomorrow but the other thing I wana hear is what code will the diagnostics display.

  6. If the problem is the steering module lock

  7. It was always displaying the STEERING NOT LOCKED message along while it drove

OK, can you "Force" the ignition on?

  9. How would I do that Mick

  10. I've also been reading about the crank sensor causing a car not to start, how's that resolved

  11. So does the ignition come on? And does it crank/turn over when the start button is pressed with the card in the slot? Or does it not recognise the card is even in the slot?

  12. Everything comes on when i press start with card in slot and when I press to button to start while holding down the clutch it says "STEERING LOCKED"then remove card then says STEERING NOT LOCKED

  13. It does not say Card not detected or card not recognised infact it switches off after a while when card is out

  14. Please guys shed some light here

  15. Have you tried pulling the steering wheel after pulling the card out the slot?

  16. Yeah I did am I not supposd to hear the fuel when I switch car on

  17. When I pressed the button to switch car on my wipers started moving today, any clues about this. The guy with the diagnostic computer will only b around somewhere in next week

  18. Its possibly the electric steering lock. If it doesnt release it wont let the car start. Does the steering lock come off? Does your wheel move? You could give it a tap with a small hammer and see if it releases. Otherwise did u say u had tried a a new upc under the bonnet?

  19. The wheel moves freely it never locks been driving like this and yeah I got a secondhand upc from gumtree

  20. Id say the locking module on the steering as packed in. The car thinks its locked when it isnt.

  21. By the way it doesnt lock it self, you have to pull the steering wheel to lock it after youve pulled the card out the slot.

  22. Ok but can the diagnostic tool surely tell when that is the case, does this mean ill have to get the car to main dealer for coding

  23. And thanks a lot for your replies ryan I surely appreciat

  24. No. The steering lock locks itself when the card is removed. It may not actually lock the steering wheel from moving till you move it but it is still locked as you should hear it clunk. If it says "steering not locked" you will have a steering lock fault. As far as i remember it doesnt need coding. It codes when you plug it in and start it. But you cant use one from another car i dont think. Its been a while since ive replaced one.

  25. If u end up changing it. The retaining bolt has a left hand thread. So tighten it to remove it

  26. Okay will apply some caution
    Thanks

  27. So today I took down the steering column to remove the lock and after unmounting it just for interest I push start while pressing clutch and saw the pin was just forcing outward even though it didn't really move much but it was just locking

  28. So I am now convinced that my prob will be solved so I will order the lock tomorrow. Keeping fingers crossed:rolleyes:

  29. Renault sent me a quote and apparently the lock comes with the steering column which is around 833€ maybe I can find one on ebay otherwise the car will have to stand another 6 months

  30. They're about £60 on ebay pal.

  31. They do come separately. Just make sure it's a virgin lock

  32. Wish I'd seen this earlier, my car used to do this for some odd reason.

Usually when the battery was a bit low (I've got a trickle charger now) due to lack of use.

The way I used to get round it was to have the car off but unlocked, pull the fuse for the power steering then put it back.
Get in the car and more often than not it'd start.

It might not work for yours but certainly it worked for mine, its obviously not a permanent fix but it should hopefully help you out for now.

  33. I have already ordered a lock on ebay it'll probably b hear next week but the thing is when I removed the lock last week

You could hear it moving so looked at it while outside and saw that it was actually moving in a lock position and I have tried that didn't work

  34. Have you tired cleaning the crank sensor?

When this fails you get no error messages and car just won't start, diagnostic tools won't help either.

Its underneath the car, simply remove 1 bolt, take off the cable, pull it out of the bell housing and wipe clean then put back in revers order.
Little metallic particles get stuck on it and the car can not determine engine\crank position therefore won't spark.

Try it and rule it out, then report back.

    I hope it helps.

  35. Where about's are you, if your local I can lend a hand with Renault CLIP?

  36. Hey there wass.

I removed already removed and my mechanic says its okay and I'm in south africa

  37. It had no particles stuck just a lil oil dust

  38. Try the fuses on top of the battery 2 orange 30 amp and 1 big grey 300 amp one see if there good I've had all 3 go and it doesn't start

  39. Will it say STEERING LOCKED/STEERING UNLOCKED msgs if its those fuses

  40. I can't remember it's been a while since it's done it,have you got a power probe to test for power at both ends of the fuse but that's the first place I'd be looking. The orange ones I pay about £1.50 for from a shop near me the grey one was about £14 from Renault
