R26 n/s driveshaft cv clip

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by rTEM, Nov 1, 2015.

  1. Hi boys, the boot clip where the driveshaft joins the hub is not in place, there is a lot of grease around and abs sensor is reporting a fault, its covered in grease. How do i get it out to clean it? Will the hub come out if the hub nut removed? What size of clip i need, thanks boys

  2. Cv boot clip, I got one from Renault but it didn't fit! So Fred at btm used one from a mondeo! I need one on my nearside now.

Don't bother with putting a clip on it, just use a good quality tie wrap, i have and never had one come off.

  4. Thanks mate, thats what my dad told me and i was not sure, so a tie wrap will be, thanks

  5. What about the hub? Will it come out after hub nut removed? Or is there something else holding i place. I must clean it and the abs sensor, as i think the grease is confusing it

Yes i should do, might need a bit of persuasion, so leave the nut on a couple of turns and bash it with a hammer if it does't want to move, it will be slightly spring loaded as well.

  7. Thanks Ian

  8. boys how do i get to the back of the bearing to clean it? i am reading now a tread on meganesport about exactly the same issue, clip gone grease on the back of the bearing, and cleaning solved the problem

  9. I put two cable ties on and had no problems after trying to put an original clip on and failing miserably. Make sure you file where you cut the excess plastic on the cable tie. Mine caught on the hub carrier as the gap between is quite narrow.

You can unclip the sensor and i would use a rag or paper towel to get off as mush as you can, then maybe use some brake cleaner, holding the hub up vertical and then spray from the top and it will run down, then wipe off excess with a clean rag or more towel.
You can also push rag or paper towel into the space where the sensor was removed and then turn the inner of the bearing to clean the magnetic ring.

  11. I assume this is done after removing the hub? Thank u

 Yes, might be a little difficult with it still on the car

you can use the same one. if you are using for track days then thread lock it on, or if you have had it on and off a few times then maybe worth getting a new one.

  15. Thanks mate

He only did that as he tested it on mine haha! We used a focus RS one first and then settled on the mondeo, dunno what I'm gonna do without him about.

  17. Yeah it's crap! He was a walking encyclopaedia! I'm still trying to find someone with a good rep near me to do some bits on my car!
