Recommend a baby seat

  1. Hi

Baby boy due in January and I'm currently going through the process of buying stuff.

Naturally I'm most interested in car seats.

I specifically fancied Recaro on an isofix base.

Theirs two Meg IIs in the fleet so the seat needs to fit them.

Recaro website says it fits the "limousine" bit lists hatchback for Meg IIIs.

    Any ideas?

  2. If this is your first baby I'd recommend getting a travel system, you know the pushchair & car seat combo. Get one with an isofix base.
Young babies are difficult to get in and out if a car whilst they sleep- and believe me you want them to stay asleep once asleep!
At 1 year old then go out and buy them a fancy one. Albeit there is a big push at the moment for rear facing as long as possible.

  3. Daz

    Daz

Cybex Aton Q with isofix base.

We've just put our lad in his first forward facing seat now he's old enough - he loves the fact he can see now!

  4. This is probably the best advice. We are also expecting early next year and I'll definitely be buying a travel system

  5. Icandy buggy, isofix base, and a car seat that fits the buggy

  6. Simple one this, sign up to which for £1 a month, end subscription when you've found your answer, search for the safest seat. End of. We have spent a fortune on baby/child seats ( got 3 little ones, age 6,4 and 16 months old ) research, research and more research, my Mrs has done all the work tbh, and we have bought very safe seats, and they don't come cheap, at first my thoughts were we are not paying that much for a seat, then I read the safety ratings and so on, and realised you can't skimp on these things, touch wood, we have never had an accident, but if we ever do, I'd like to think, we have done our very best to protect our children regardless of cost, ( and we have bought these seats when we have been proper skint) we have not bought the most expensive, but they where not cheap and well up there in the best of the bunch, and for the record, rear facing is far safer than forward facing, keep them facing this way as long as possible.

Get yourself to a baby seats centre for some proper advice, I'll ask the Mrs what seats we have, and the name of the baby centre we went to, they where very good, and would not sell you a seat if it was not safe in your car, winstanly s in Wigan, that's the one.

  7. As Bill says too.

I've got 4 children (no more!!). We've always bought reasonably priced ones.
We've always researched and always always always take your car and go try them all as often what gets a great review turns out not to fit your car too well, or the wife finds it difficult to get the baby in etc etc.

Anyhow, good luck with baby, and having to choose what to buy. I can tell you we bought a lot more of a lot more expensive stuff for the first than the last. But everyone does that. Lol.

  8. I have a cosatto travel system, then i bought the isofix base seperate. Excelent for the first 10 months. Just about to buy a recaro seat, blue to match me front seats. Lol

  9. Right ok guys. Thanks for the replies.

I am aware of travel systems and will be getting one. Most don't come with car seats though just the facility to attach a car seat straight to the chassis (recaro/maxicosi etc).

The ones that do come with car seats seem to be either a generally cheap system with untested (or at least not reviewed) seats or very very expensive systems.

Before writing this post we'd pretty much decided on the whole travel system and that's not changed but our preferred choice did not include a seat in the deal. As most of these systems allow different seats, it's that aspect I was interested in.

I did plenty of research which is why I mentioned recaro. They seem to continually getting the best test results at European testing. BeSafe have also been recommended.

I suppose I was particularly interested to know if anyone has any specific experience with seat issues in the megane from a compatability perspective.

I am also aware of the importance of keeping them rear facing for as long as possible in order to minimise the risk.

  10. Which Icandy? We've looked at Strawbwrry and Peach 3 in our budget.

  11. Ive just bought the apple to pear system icandy deal as we have a little girl arriving in March. £595 for the chassis and other bits isn't bad but not included the car seat. Looking at maxi cosi with the isofix base. A mate of mine runs a recaro with base in his 3 door 225 so I know they fit but they are big and chunky.

  12. I´ll choose recaro

  13. I've got a little girl and have always had a recaro seat there such good quality and also goes nicely with the front recaro seats in the front.

  14. Yeah I opted for the recaro seat in the end!
