I am not very mechanically minded and the garage said it is not an issue and does not need fixing urgently but they said: track rod end ball joint has slight play near side front suspension arm has slight play in ball joint upper rear wheel bearing has slight play near side rear front - both inner rack joints have slight play are any of those a major problem? Could they become a problem if not fixed quickly? They said they would have to check the price to do the repairs but the front stuff would be around £250. Any help ell is greatly appreciated
Don't panic about any of these, but they do need doing. They are all common Megane issues. Depending on the miles you do, they could even last till next years MOT, but in all honestly, take this as a early warning that you need to spend some money on maintenance. £250 is not enough to be honest for the front. If you're keeping the car, just get both track rods and ends done on both sides. The ball joints I think can be replaced separately but most garages will tell you you need to buy the whole wishbone which is expensive. Wheel bearing usually means new discs and pads too. Again, it's fine to drive, but you need to plan to spend some money.
rear brakes are 180 on there own track rod ends 30 per side tie rods 35 per side Ball joints - wishbone replacement 140/190 depending on the side or £11 for a replacement ball joint and then getting it sorted. Where are you located?
Save yourself money on parts using the following links; Track rod ends; http://www.mister-auto.co.uk/en/tie-...61JTE1061.html - Track Rod End, OEM 77 01 474 796 http://www.mister-auto.co.uk/en/tie-...61JTE1060.html - Track Rod End, OEM 77 01 474 795 Suspension arm ball joints; http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Re...d92875e&000019 Inner tie rods you HAVE to get from Renault as other pattern parts are too short. I would also get your Mechanic to check the front/rear bushes while they've got the suspension arms off. Whilst you've got the front apart you may as well refresh all wear and tear items (within reason) otherwise you'll be making regular trips to the garage! Check the following thread; http://www.rsmegane.com/showthread....and-steering-components-*links-inside*/page10 But yeah depends how much you use the car, how pedantic your are, how long you planning on keeping it etc.
thanks for all the help, the car will do about 10,000 miles a year and i plan on keeping it for another few years at least. I do not have much spare cash at the moment so could do with waiting a month or so and buying the parts before getting them fit. i live between york and leeds, if anyone knows a good relatively cheap mechanic, I work just up from RS tuning but the quotes I have had from them for repairs seem to be on the steep side.
finally getting around to sorting this out, ok so just to check the parts I need: http://www.mister-auto.co.uk/en/tie-...61JTE1061.html - Track Rod End, OEM 77 01 474 796 http://www.mister-auto.co.uk/en/tie-...61JTE1060.html - Track Rod End, OEM 77 01 474 795 the inner tie rods from renault the upper ball joint from: http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Re...d92875e&000019 - **do i need 2 of these 1 for each side?** these parts are also listed on that linked suspension thread: http://www.mister-auto.co.uk/en/anti...?KTypeNr=30118 - ARB drop link, OEM 82 00 669 065 http://www.mister-auto.co.uk/en/anti...161JTS466.html - anti-twist link, OEM 82 00 686 016 do I just need 1 of each of those? or 1 for each side? is it worth just getting them replaced with the other parts? and the bushes, not to ask a really stupid question but does the rear refer to the rear of the car or the rear of a part of the front suspension? just as the thread only talkes about front suspension but then rear is mentioned below? again do i need 2 of these? 1 for each side? http://www.mister-auto.co.uk/en/cont...528879!01.html - Rear bush http://www.mister-auto.co.uk/en/cont...528878!01.html - Front bush Is there anything else that is worth replacing? Sorry for all the questions all of this just makes no sense to me at all
Wouldn't bother trying to replace the arms bushes & ball joints it's such a hassle. Best to replace the whole arm.
by arms do you mean: http://www.k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=4646 and then the r26 left and right? strange how the r26 left is £20 cheaper than the standard left so get both new arms which will cover the upper ball joint on the suspension arm, then get inner tie rods and track rod ends to cover the other MOT problems what about the drop link and twist link?
