Exhaust Opinions

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by NathanF, Oct 6, 2015.

  1. Morning all,

I've had the 250 for a few months now and whilst the car has far more raw speed and cornering prowess, than I have talent, I do wish it sounded a little better. So my insurance company will allow me to put on a SS exhaust and panel filter with no increase in premium. And sure, ~£600 for the pair to give maybe 3-5bhp increase is a lot, but it's more about the overall driving experience than the outright performance.

So, what do people favor in an aftermarket exhaust? It's only going to be cat-back and nothing super loud. I've listened to a fair few on YouTube, but I'm aware that's not the best comparison and a lot of them just sound like it's blowing, but that could be the recording equipment :worried: Considered the middle box chop as a cheap alternative too, but again, it just sounds loud, not clean.

From what I've heard, the K-Tec sounds pretty nice. Any opinions on that or others?

    Thanks in advance!

    Nathan.

  2. Any exhaust will invariably fail to make it sound 'better' though you'll get 90% of the same effect with the mid box out they'll all sound like it does now but louder.... like a very angry vacuum cleaner

  3. Yeah I'd say go for the mid box chop, keep the box and can always put it back if you get bored of the noise. Spend the pennies saved on a proper induction kit and you'll get loads of induction noise and possibly even chatter . . .

  4. Thanks all. Didn't consider that I could put the box back in, good call. And the induction kit is off the menu for the time being as the insurance company won't touch it. Panel filter only, weirdly.

I might look at changing companies next year with a view to remapping it, but right now I can't see any real benefit on the road to any more power. If anything it would make it harder to drive. On a track, certainly, but I'm unlikely to risk my pride an joy on track any time soon.

Anyways, off-topic! I'll speak to my local custom exhaust place and see what they charge.

    Nathan.

  5. Try the panel filter first and remove the airbox foam at the same time, it make a lot more noise after that. Though mostly only on boost so it's not annoying, you might not need/want more.

  6. I had the back box chop done. Initially I was a little disappointed but now it's bedded in it sounds good. Not too loud and great when warm

  7. Mines improved with time too I get overrun pops now

  8. I recently had the mid box chop done on my 265, it's a bit louder and sounds a bit more aggressive, it pops, bangs and farts, it makes me smile. When you press the sport button off it almost sounds stock!
