Coolant for a 250

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by James25, Sep 27, 2015.

  1. Iv had my 250 about a month now, and this morning i noticed the coolant level is over an inch lower than the minimum level.
I didnt check the level when i bought the car so i dont know if its reduced due to a leak or if there was just that much in it when i drove it away. Im waiting till tomorrow to phone the dealership to see if they knew what the level was (they must keep a record of this stuff).

Am i ok topping up with water in the meantime or which would you recommend?

    Cheers, James.

  2. What colour is the coolant thats in?

  3. Its a red/orange colour

  4. Think the red stuff from halfords should do it. Dont know if i would be putting water in tbf.

  5. Dealers have a check sheet when they do services and they usually (mine does anyway) give you a copy of it. I'd be amazed if coolant wasn't on there.

  6. Nope, didnt get anything like that, only the MOT certificate.
Will be phoning them first thing.

The OEM, Type D coolant should be lime green in colour

  8. Thanks Gray. But can they be mixed?

Isnt Coolant just Antifreeze and water anyway?

  9. Don't mix the colours.

  10. It used to be a red orange colour and then it changed to green. Im sure water to top up will be fine for the tiny amount of water that you will need..

  11. Cheers for the replies. I phoned the servicing department up this morning and they said distilled water to top up is ok.
And the type is RX type D which they said is pink, which is i think what i have in now.
Im going to top up and keep an eye on it, according to them it was at the right level when they serviced it.

  12. Mine is orange, don't suppose it matters too much though. Its a renault specialist i use that use all oem parts etc.

  13. Sorry double post, phone's going bammy
