Worn steering column?

  1. How much play is in your steering column at the top?

I'm trying to detect the vagueness/play in the steering.

I've given the following thought and consideration plus action:

    - track rod ends: both replaced
    - inner track rod joints:both replaced
    - steering rack bush: replaced for TFD poly one
    - tyres: all four changed and correctly pressurised
    - tracking: done
    - wheel bearings: ? Seem ok
    - Hub swivel bearings: ?
    - anti twist links: ? Seem ok but may replace
    - ARB drop links: will replace
    - lower steering UJ: seems sound and tight

The actual column at the top seems to have some play though. If I hold the column still lower down above the UJ at the bulkhead, I can rock the steering back forth some. Perhaps the upper UJ or something?

I'm going to check it again when I've got light and make sure I'm not making it up.

    Anyone experience this?
