225 Cold start ticking?

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by iiPaul, Dec 11, 2017.

  1. I’ve had my meg over two years now and it’s just started doing it this year in the really cold weather,
It doesn’t get used much and sits there all day but now the cold weathers here I went to start it tonight (been sitting all day) in -2 cold and I have a loud ticking noise for about 10 seconds then it clears,

I assume it’s the hydraulic tappets? Is this something to worry about and whys it only started doing it when it’s cold?

  2. Mine does the same. Has done for a while. Never been sure what it was but usually stops after about 5-10 seconds probably once the oil has circulated.

  3. I think like you say it’s the oil circulation and I think it’s something to do with the hydraulic tappets, either way I’m not a fan of the noise it sounds like the slack timing chain you get on a corsa [emoji40][emoji23]
