Mk3 Battery Relocation

Discussion in 'Electrical & Interior - Security, ICE, Wiring Loom' started by Mark_RS, Sep 19, 2017.

  1. Anyone done this? Pictures would be great...just contemplating a shift of weight to the boot but not sure how to neatly move ecu and the various wire boxes from the front.

  2. Pm me your email address. I can forward pictures.

  3. Done!

    Charlie may be able to provide pics of mine that he did... mine's in the boot, with charging point under the bonnet. It's the same as the Trophy-R uses.

    There ya go

    Slightly old as I have a clutch bite-point adjuster in there as well now, but you can see how much it opens up... makes changing the thermostat easier

  6. I'm talking to Charlie about the Ti exhaust at the moment...Charlie, can you send me any pics of the install via email? Just wondering how to tidy up the battery box area.

  7. Thank you!

  8. Just thinking on this...I've bought the Liteblox LB1XX battery which weighs just over 1kg. I'm thinking what's the point in relocating the battery at all? The cable (25mm size) will weigh almost as much as the battery itself and shifting 1kg to the rear is going to do jack to cross weight. Can anyone convince me otherwise?

    I wouldn't bother tbh, leave it as is

  10. That is my thinking Jamie, just wondering why people do move these ultra light batteries to the boot or elsewhere. I can understand if the battery space is needed for something else but otherwise it doesn't make a lot of sense does it!

    The best thing about moving the battery into the boot is the extra space in the engine bay, you have option to improve intake, cooling, gearbox mods become a lot easier. Buying a lightweight battery to save weight then putting it in the boot seems a bit daft but the difference it makes to the engine bay is worthwhile in my opinion, take a look at this to see how we've done it and tidied up the engine bay;

  12. I hear you, but if I'm not going for more power, have the CAE already and the ITG...is there any value in doing it? I would happily do it if so (love your solution btw, very very nice). I'd only really do it if it improved the cross weight but 1.xx kg is going to do nothing. Just my thoughts!

  13. But if you did you would have 2kg towards the rear rather than 1kg at the front, every little helps the balance... You could also fit a battery cut-out turny-knob thing and disconnect the battery when you weren't using the car.

    As CGR have said it would also free up a lot of space under the bonnet for tinkering.

  14. Maybe CGR should do a battery relocation kit [emoji6]

  15. RS Centre in Switzerland do a liteblox fitting kit but they never reply to me. I think Mark1 that it's still a lot of effort for 1kg. If I get the carbon bonnet and remove the engine cover etc that's worth more to me. That said I wonder how much the battery box weighs? Doubt it's a kilo but will find out.
