  1. Hi all, due to circumstances beyond my control involving convoluted job, financial, childcare and train fares to London issues, it is with a heavy heart that I am having to sell my beautiful black Mégane 265 with all the trimmings :worried:. I have got we-thieve-any-car coming on Sunday - I would have offered it privately but it's got a bit of finance one it and I've been offered a good price (probably because it's a facelift 2015 model with mileage in 4 figures still).

I decide to stay in the Renaultsport family and have just put a deposit on a near immaculate black R26 with 57k on the clock, 2 owners and full history and lots of stickers . The car felt great to drive and you can really see the Renaultsport d.n.a from the R26 right up to the 265. I was preparing myself for a step down, but it was just as fun. Gearbox and interior quality were the only downsides compared to the newer one, but I suppose you have to put up with a bit of French to get the fun rewards! I pick it up around Wednesday, but will be so sad to see the 265 go.

  2. Hi, yes I just saw your thread, could have hijacked in there but never mind! It's the black one near Deal, Kent on Auto Trader/ebay for £6995. The dealer described it as pretty much immaculate barring a few general age related bits, and you know what? It was. Its obviously been looked after and cuddled and kissed every night before bed. The interior looked like it had barely been sat in.

He was a really nice guy and a petrolhead and we must have chatted for about 2 hrs just about cars and racing etc, such a pleasant buying experience.

  3. Nice one. I liked me RS265 but it just felt a bit big for me. Looking now but R26s are all miles away - well the reasonably priced good ones anyway.

  4. The 'drive' isn't a lot different to be honest. You'll notice the power/torque difference at higher speed, but the car is still mega fun.

The interior is a generation older as you say but I don't think it wants for anything to be honest.

Get some pics up before/after and I'm sure it won't be the disappointment you may think.

  5. Just done the same well got the r26 the 265 is for sale. Agree drive not ally different

  7. get the shortshift done for the R26,and it will be better than the 265`s..trust me.
look in the for sale section on here for Boardy who supplies them.

Put this on,remap and refresh the brakes, and you will be right on the pace of a 265 across country..

  8. Ooh I like the white ones! I considered one but I'm in a more discreet mood of late - my 265 was black too. I did have a White 250 so I've done the white thing . Good thing is the one I'm picking up has had a re-map done about 4 years ago at RS Tuning and it's pushing 250bhp, pads and discs are very new still so I'm good to go!

The only slight hiccup is that the cambelt is due. It's due on age but it's only done about 14k miles since it was done, but peace of mind and all that.

  9. water pump is a must when changing the belt to..you don't want that failing!
Just make sure you do the shortshift..not only does it reduce throw by a mile...it makes for a much more positive shift.
OEM gearshift is the glaring weakness in the R26 package..

  10. Why are there so many black ones? 70-80% of the cars available are black?

  11. Well it is with a heavy heart that I said goodbye to my 265 today. Money4YourMotors offered me a ludicrous price on Sunday, so I politely declined and sold it to Renault Ashford today. Got a very good price for it, sales guy was great and the whole thing only took about an hour.

Got to poke around the new Mégane as well, loving the dashboard ipad thing and the colour changing ambient lighting .

Obviously they will put it up for more but keep an eye out for it as it's a good-un!

Still picking up the R26 Weds, short shift sounds great, might put that on my wishlist. I see KTEC also do one but it's about £230. Plus I possess the same mechanical knowledge as the giant anteater, so would have to find someone to fit it.

  12. ktec shortshift is a direct copy of mine..difference is you have to buy the entire mechanism from ktec..hence the high price.

  13. I picked up the R26 on Wednesday and had a lovely lunch with Ms Clam and our little 9 month old daughter in Sandwich, Kent. I spoke to RS Tuning a few days ago regarding the Megane and its remap from 2012 - they still had it on file and it made 250bhp - probably why it feels right on the pace of my 265!

Apart from having a rattly French interior, the car feels more fun to drive than the 265, but nowhere near as refined when just plodding in traffic, but not too bad. Unbelievably, both window switches are illuminated when lights are on. But for how long?

Loving the weird handbrake, feel like I'm putting the landing gear down or something! Its definitely a blast to drive, the extra power feels perfect and the lsd does a nice job of pulling and scrabbling you through the corner. Brakes are fantastic, discs and pads are quite new but they feel better than my 265. Think the thing I'll miss the most for convenience is the R Link sat nav screen, but hey.

Depending how long I keep it, I think a short shift is in order and I would like to get some decals made for the seat runners with the logo and build number on, I've seen a few with these on - any idea where you get these?

  14. Sounds like a good 'un

The window switch lights aren't to worry about... it's the function of the switch that is. If you've got a R26 where both front windows work, you're doing well.

Re the handbrake - again, be thankful it's working and try not to abuse it (!) The mechanism is fragile, not fixable and the replacements aren't cheap.

    Any pics?

  15. Both my windows are buggered ! Have been for some time just haven't got around to sorting.
Ive just had high carbon brembo brakes fitted with DS2500 pads on my R26 and they feel really good !

  16. A couple of very poorly taken photos taken on the day of picking it up when we parked up in a car park in Sandwich

  17. Like that a lot!

  18. It's going in for timing belt, water pump and aux belts at Ren7Oaks next Wednesday, quoted £525 Inc VAT which I thought was very good, all genuine Renault parts of course. It's only done 16k miles since it's last cambelt but that was 5 years ago! Decided against the short shift for now simply due to finances, but soon, if I keep the car for a bit. (Have had 34 cars in 14 years.)

Also weighing up whether to get a double din android auto enabled head unit, not sure how good they are.

  23. Picked up my R26 yesterday

  24. Hey Lynchy that may be a short list but it's a good one . Hope you've still got the XR2, they are appreciating a bit now.

Oooh Frimley what one have you bought? What colour?

  25. This. I didn't want an R26 that was too nice as the track and hoons I do can be hard on cars and I didn't want to get too precious about the car so it has 280bhp, FMIC, ITG, Cooksport Springs, new shocks, new steering bushes, new swivel jonits, decat, FSH, R26R spoiler, long MoT etc and 113k. It was only £3500 which is fine for what I wanted. It's amazingly solid and rattle free for the mileage too. So far I have only done a long slog down the motorway to pick it up but will get out in it a bit over the next few days.

Do some of these have directional headlights as I found an old dealer adv for it saying it had 'follow me home' lights.

  26. follow me home lights I am sure is when flick the full beam 3 times after you turn the engine off and the headlights stop on for x amount of time

  27. It should be 30 seconds per flick, up to a maximum of 90 seconds.

  28. That looks really smart, looks like it's been enthusiast owned from the mods and condition. Good price too, I paid nearly double for mine :openmouth:, but I was buying as a general car rather than track in mind so I bought on mileage and condition. Great mods tho

  29. Are you local to Sevenoaks? Reason I ask is I saw a car very similar to this going past Otford station last week then overtake me on the flyover. Dodgy fuel sender meant I couldn't follow you!

  30. Nope, I've managed Wales to Frimley so far.

  31. Indeed. The interior is like its done 30k not 113k! Its amazingly solid inside too, hardly a rattle. I drove a 75k one and this feels a bit better. It really shows how looking after a car makes so much difference. The last guy owned a garage and just bought it, spent a ton of money on new shocks, ITG, suspension work etc and then just sold it. Its prefectly driveable day to day but its meant to be a car that I can track and hoon without thinking 'Ooo this is killing my tyres, bodywork, brakes, etc'. However, I'll still lavish lots of love on it.

Not too sure about the dump valve noise when I am driving it in town though, fine on track/hoons but...

  32. Sounds good, glad you're happy with it, bet that will be a hoot on track as well. Paintwork looks very smart too. I once had a Peugeot 205 Gti that had undergone an £11k restoration, and was on 137k miles, but looked and drove like brand new. I was surprised when I went to see my one in that the dealer described it as pretty immaculate, and it turned out to be just so. Plus the history was plentiful and the bonus of a new clutch, recent service and unexpected re-map and low mileage I was happy to give top dollar.

Timing belt all done now by the way, great service by the Ren7Oaks guys and were happy to listen to me babble on about Renaults for a while too.

I'm considering getting my engine cover sprayed (as well as a short shift and double din, is it Xmas yet?!) In my mind I've got gloss black for the majority of it, the central 'pipe' that runs across and down I'm thinking liquid yellow and the four cover indents silver, with a 'renault F1 team' decal bottom right. I have seen the engine cover thread for inspiration .
