275 Trip computer resetting - or lack of !

  1. Hi,

Any ideas as to why this has started happening ?

If I reset the trip computer when car is moving/engine running, it doesn't start reading until I get out of the car lock up and get in again. Affects mpg/ave speed/trip distance/fuel used etc. All read 0 and stay there - apart from ave mph once saying I was averaging 198mph ............... !!!
These parameters could all be reset when moving since car was purchased until now.
Car is 275 cup s with less than 5,000 miles on it ! Not looking very good so far Renault.............

  2. Mine doesn't have this problem,if I reset it on the move it'll start reading everything straight away. Bit of a strange one.
Also a Cup S with low miles

  3. Get it back to the dealership.....

  4. Sure it did reset on the move initially but not now (:
Got it booked in for an oil change on Thursday so will see what the dealer says - or tries to fob me off with .
Just wondered if anyone else had had problems with this and knew of the solution.

Bit wary of electrical things which seem innocuous but lead to bigger problems after my previous car had
some apparent small electrical faults/dodgy readings etc but still ran great and then without warning proceeded to self combust when it had been sitting in the road for 7 hours untouched ! The alarm alerted me and the neighbours but still ended up being written off ..........

  5. try disconnecting the battery for while, see if that resets the whole lot.

  6. I've had this.

It's only happened a couple of times in 18 months, so it's intermittent. Apart from it annoying you, it doesn't have any lasting effects so I never bothered complaining to be honest.

Like in the old days with Ferrari where you bought the engine and the rest came free, so with Renault you buy the chassis and the rest is a bonus :tonguewink:

  7. Thanks for the replies.

Update- been back to dealers twice in last week and they are now saying you cannot reset journey parameters, mpg/ave mph etc when car is moving due to safety reasons ! Handbook implies to me that you can and am sure car did reset fine when got it.

When i reset on the move all readings are blank or zero even driving a 100 mile journey. Turn car off, get back in next time and start it and ave mph says 299.9 mph/ave mpg 99.9/0 distance covered etc. !! Will slowly drop down over time but even then can;t be reading correctly as it is averaging including these figures.

Is there anyone who can please confirm they can reset their journey parameters whilst moving and get readings whilst moving without turning the ignition off ?

I Would appreciate it as have been on to Renault and they have rung 3 dealers who also say for safety reasons it can't be reset on the move which to me means it is inaccurate and useless ! No answer as to the 299.9mph/99.9mpg though..........
Agree it is not a major problem but think things should work on a 7 month old expensive (to me  ) car.

If anyone has had (or knows someone who has } this problem and has had it corrected would it be possible to reply what the solution was/is ?

    Thanks for reading,

    Andy.

  8. Can confirm that mine does the same.
Reset when the car has just been started and not rolled yet works. After it has moved (even when brought back to stand still) the reset is strange, like you described.

  9. My 275 Cup-S also does this...

  10. Strange! I can reset mine at any point and it will start counting and reading again a few seconds later....also a 275 Cup S!
