250 What brake pads?

  1. I've had a search but only really related to the R26. Ive had my car a few days now and after a few spirited drives I'm finding the only thing wrong with the car is the brakes. I'm thinking it's the pads (which are oem amd have plenty of life left) but they fade very quickly amd give me absolutely no confidence once at this stage. Now the car is a road car but but will see a fair bit of track and b Road blasts.

So what pads do you guys recommend? I've run carbotec on my mini and they where just too noisy and ruined my wheels.

Obviously fluid will be upgraded but I just want a combo that wikl give great bite and not fade like oem pads

    Cheers

  2. OEM were fine for me, for road use.

Some people swear by EBC yellows. I have them for road (they were cheap) but I don't think they're any better than OEM. They will be replaced by OEM when they need to be.

I also have CL RC5+ for trackdays. I change them over before and after. I rate them, not too destructive/dusty either. Good value IMO. Just ensure you take them out over winter. They don't like cold and wet. The compound comes away otherwise.

There are others, of course. I'm sure plenty of others will be along soon enough to share their thoughts, opinions and experiences.

  3. Potentially the fluid then? My tt had s3 brakes which are a big single piston caliper with 345mm Brymbo discs and pads and never faded even with oem fluid and lines and that car is a good 200kg more the the meg amd I don't have the same bite on the pedal. Obviously horses for courses but I'd expect the meg to be much better in that department

  4. I run ATE super blue fluid, CL RC5+ on the front and ebc yellow on the rear. Works fine for me.

  5. I would try new fluid first .. The standard pads are good enough for a B road blast ...

Most good Dot 4 race fluid should be up to the job .. ATE super blue is good for the price , or something like Motul RBF 600 of the budget will stretch to something better

Super blue is no longer made IIRC they only do the the typ200 now

  7. After market pad wise anyone run ds2500? Used to have th on the mini amd they where great

  8. yes mate I had these fitted to my new R26.r discs and type 200 fluid just a few weeks ago, very very happy, I have an unused airstrip where I work and I have given them a good going over on there with a few good bends either end just to see if any fade and again well happy so far, castle combe soon too so will let you know if they fail lol
of course I wont mention Rhondda valley hills, def stopped me well there too

  9. Cheers buddy good to know

  10. If you're brake pedal goes back to normal after the brakes have cooled it's the pads that have been cooked. If it stays spongy it's the fluid. I found the Oem pads weren't up to much either. I did fluid and pads at the same time. And yes the super blue is now called type 200. Exactly the same just without the dye
And if you're doing a fair bit of track I'd go with a slightly more aggressive pad as the meg isn't the lightest

  11. Deffo the pads then, thought it was but I'll do the lot Inc braided houses
