Uniroyal rainsport 3's. Anyone tried them on their Megs? I'm Thinking of getting a set and wondered if anyone could share their experience on them.
I had them on my 500 abarth, as you would expect the wet grip was very very good, best I've experienced actually. however, my fronts were on legal limit after 6000 miles. I've never had a road tyre that's wore down that quickly before. So from that I wouldn't recommend them
Hello, I had them in a BMW M3, have them removed after dovutoi 100KM, they shoulder too soft for machines with very rigid frame as the M3. I think the pr Megane does not go well.
I've got them on my road wheels, brilliant in the wet, which is most of the time, don't suppose they will last beyond 6k miles but £50 a corner you can't go wrong.
They are one of the most used msa listed tyre for wet racing.. Everyone I've spoke too at any of my meetings swear by them..
I wouldn't bother mate. There are more dry days in the UK than wet and whilst they are cheap they wear very quickly. Go for a decent all round tyre that will last twice as long. Only have these if you are desperate.
i had them on my old clio182 & as said above great in the wet & better than nankflipflops* in the dry *these are a very cheap made up tyre...
£50 a piece is proper bargain stuff. I have the 4x4 version of their tyre on my old Range, brilliant in the wet but I didn't like the soft sidewalls. Tempted to have 2 sets of wheels, one with these rainsports on for general poor weather driving and another with Cup 2s on.
i use the rainsports on the road, plenty good enough unless you drive like a loon, I've got another set of wheels for trackdays, works well for me.
A set of wet and dry tyres for track makes sense but for the UK roads, what do you do, check the weather every morning and swap wheels because you need that extra bit of grip to go shopping?
I'm pretty sure the rainsport 3 will be ok to pop to the shops, mine didn't wear out on the way to and from waitrose.
Other way round, use the Cup 2 for track days except if its bucketing down bta I am not sure I would bother and just sit it out. I really don't enjoy track driving in the wet, I thought I was really good in the wet then had a heavy crash in qualifying at Brand Hatch 2012 that put me out for that season. Its really horrible you feel like a driving god pulling long 4 wheel drifts such as out of Clark curve then 3 corners later stick it backwards into the armco at 80. To much of a lottery for me the wet and the thing is you either drive around like a granny way below the limits or take the risk of a big off.
Sounds like that shunt cramped your style. Track days are a bit different from racing though and there's nothing to really prove as the stopwatch isn't running. On the right circuit and on the right bends you can get a lot of fun in the wet, But at the end of the day when you see a car in the barrier on a track day you tend to think was it all worth it.
Funnily enough it didn't in the end at all. The next season I went back on the Friday testing but didn't put an entry in to Saturdays race as it was over subscribed, I got down into the 56s but at the time was really hacked off knowing that low 55s was needed to compete at the front. Daft really if I had of been a reserve I would have got a race and on that pace a midfield finish in a car that in hindsight was almost undriveable, 80 Kg out on the cross weights, silly amounts of rear toe in and ridiculously heavy steering. A friend of mine won that Championship in 2013, is one of the best racers I have seen in the wet but likewise he doesn't enjoy wet lapping. Close to standard road cars on road tyres can be fun in the wet granted, but that is only because the limits become very accessible.
