Hi All. Bought my car a year ago now, it had Carbone Lorraine (CL8 I believe) front pads already fitted. I have been very happy with these, 4 trackdays and no issues. Now they are worn out it is time to replace, so can anyone suggest anywhere to buy them, that doesn`t involve selling a kidney? Or any suggestions on other makes (only road miles are to and from tracks)? Cheers Carl
On R26 I use either DS1.11, or Winmax 5, both good stopping power road or track, never had any fade/squeaking, ( Using plain disks.) For me, I get on brakes late, get of them, and don't linger, works for me
Hi Carl I had the carbon Lorraine RC8's on my Mk3 265,i tried other pads but these can't be beaten, in my opinion, i'm a seriously a late braker too and never worry when hitting the brake peddle. I did try PBS pads and after a lap at the ring there was nothing there, although i have to say the PBS Protrack pads i used in my R26 with Mk3 brakes were very good and so are the EBC RPX pads (even better), the RP1's aren't great though, on the road they were okay but hard track use NO.
Cheers for the input both. I looked on www.kamracing.co.uk. They list a Carbone Lorraine RC6E, which they say gives longer life. These are £334, the RC8 are £322, and the Winmax W5 are £280 (from the same supplier). I think I am also quite a late braker, the Megane is so stable, you can jump on them mindbendingly late! So not much difference in price, but any more input gratefully received.
The Ds1.11 have a sharper initial bite, the winmax are more progressive. I will try the winmax 6.5 next.
have any of you tried Endless, i have Pagid RST3 in now which should see me a few laps but would like to try the endless ones, but not sure which pad is optimum for these? obviously, this car is not really street driven much
ME22, I've only used these in my Meg so have nothing to compare them to, you won't be disappointed Renault Megane RS250 (Brembo) 09 Endless Front ME20 & ME22 Circuit Brake Pads (vipmotorsport.co.uk)
I've tried the RC8, PBS and Winmax. My thoughts are PBS Are fantastic for the rear, not great for the fronts but i dont know why they just work really well at the back. RC8 are good but i found Winmax 5 better, i'm not moving to winmax 6.5 which I believe will have the initial bite of the RC8 but the better braking performance of the W5.
I tried the Pagid RSL29 on my stock front rotors and didn't find the combination worked well for me on the track; also very noisy and lacked cold bite for the street - on the track, material buidup on rotors was patchy, causing vibration. Fitted new DBA rotors and Endless ME20 pads and combination has worked really for me on the track; also cold bite for street is pretty good. Rears have DS2500.
Thanks for all the input guys. Have just bought the Winmax W5. Managed to get a small discount from the importer, Kamracing, as I work in the motor trade, and bought them via my work. Looking forward to getting out again, might sell another kidney and do Silverstone! Did this once in the old MR2 turbo, was epic.
thanks! noise, dust etc not an issue for me, just want best pad for the ring really. They RST 3 i got with the car are good but seen more running endless, but seem there are lots of options of endless pad for these
Noise isn't a problem, no dustier than any other pad, I've done over 20 ring laps with mine & there's still plenty of life left in them
I have used Endless pads but they were in my 225 with 250 brake setup, the ones i used were EP357CC60 they were really good, lasted nearly a year, think that was with about 10 trackdays and around 5k road miles. I did Email the company i bought them from to find out what the new equivalent compound coding was, but i never got a reply. Would buy them again if i could find the new compound numbers
I have stock grooved discs.. I have done multiple back to back flying laps of the ring at pace, not one hint of fade. Braided lines, rbf660 and these pads are well recommended
Also did a brake fluid change - went from rbf660 to endless. Significant improvement in fell and less compressibility - note there was NO air in system prior to change, and rbf was only 6 months old.
When i had my 265. it was my track car okay i drove it to tracks but that was it, i found the best pads (for me) were Carbon Lorraine RC8's, they were really good on the road, they worked well from cold and never faded ever. They are a bit expensive but the confidence on track with extreme late braking was worth it for me. I did try them in a Mk2 with Mk3 brakes and they were too vicious for my liking. Just my 2p's worth
Interesting. Ive heard from others, not Megane owners, that the RC8's are good. Mine will be used on the road, but i'm pretty sure i'll end up having separate disc's and pad's for the road. That's purely down wanting a proper track (race) pad and not having to worry, to a certain extent, about working on the road.
As I have some experience on other track and race cars (sprints and endurance) my favourite track pads (depending on use and circuit layout) are: Endless ME22 Endless MA45/46B (do NOT use with slotted disks), definite endurance compound. RS29 (do ONLY use with slotted disks). On my Meg build, we will try it with the endurance Endless, which are pricey but are very durable. Should work well with stock plain disks. If I'd use my Meg on shorter sprint tracks one, I might opt for something with a little bit more initial bite, but for my use case (and not using them in the winter!) the endurance Endless will be the best choice.
