I'm going to look at a few R26's tomorrow so should hopefully be a megane owner within the next 24 hours. I'm dying to do a track day, probably anglesey. I'm already thinking ahead, does an R26 require any work to make it track friendly. I suppose my main concern is the brakes, how do they cope with a track day with standard pads? Thanks in advance, Pete
Hi mate, change the fluid and see how you get on, Anglesey is one of my favourite tracks, you will love it
I did Anglesey in my last car, it will be interesting to see how the Megane stacks up. Anglesey is epic, marvelous track. Fingers crossed that one of the two cars I'm looking at tomorrow is a good'n. I'll be sure to change the brake fluid then.
More personal preference with pads depending on how you drive but I run CL RC5+ on the front and EBC yellow on the rear.
I think every forum has it's "can of worms". On the VX forum it was always the supercharged or turbo charged debate. If Carbone lorraine are available for the R26 then I'll probably go with them purely because they were amazing on the VX. Thanks for the replies.
But it was on the internet so it must be true..... I can't say for the R26 but on the Mk3 the stock brakes will handle light track use. I would always stick some decent fluid in though. CL pads are superb, I have used the RC5+ and the 6 in my RS250 and can't complain, Only issues i had was the friction material falling off the RC5's when they go low but that is down to me running them in the cold wet Scottish winter, which are the conditions the do not like. Cheap as well.
This was a problem in the VX world with the RC5+ pads. It never happened to me, but then my car only ever came out in good weather. I'll be doing much more road miles than I did in the VX and the car will be used all year round so maybe yellow stuff could be the way forward. They are a damn sight cheaper as well!
Buy it. Take it to a track, as is, and see how it fairs. My 250 did 30 laps of the ring and two uk trackdays before I changed a thing. Even tyres. Out of the box, you can't go wrong. You'll soon see for yourself what needs doing to it, to improve it. That said, to add value to this thread, here's my advice from my own experience. Pads were first. CL RC5+ made a world of difference. Tyres next. The std MPS2s on mine were fantastic. I run NS-2Rs for track now. Fluid & hoses - changed to braided & ATE Super R fluid. Thats all I've done. It doesn't need much else IMO.
EBC blue stuff ive run past year or so of trackdays, but now im racing so cars not on road ive gone to CL rc5+ (first test on them yet to come) may try out the rc6 soon but these wouldnt be good on road, be too noisy tyres I always swore on yoko AD08 for trackday/road legal use, but then i bought second set of wheels with slicks. part worn £35 corner cant complain just beware on standard cup suspension will eat fronts as too much body roll onto the outside edge on slicks. since going coilovers and got -2 degree+ of camber they wear even and last longer) also come the long hall to pembrey 26th april be nice to actually be out with another megane on a trackday for once..
Hey josh you sure its not the tues 26th of may cos I don't think there is a car track day that date in april fella, but correct me if I am wrong amigo
