For any of you looking for a fair price on timing belt replacement, I’ve had mine done today along with an oil and filter change for the very reasonable price of £155 (labour) I supplied genuine parts (timing belt kit, water pump, oil & filter, coolant) which cost me £210. Automax in Dolgellau will accommodate your Renault Sport needs using Terry (ex Renault master technician). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
No I didn’t, it’s not seen as a consumable part by Renault. Terry said he’s never had to change one since the good old days of 172/182’s. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Mine is due to be done in about a years time, I do trackdays and stuff so might get it done sooner. What does a complete job consist off? I live in the South East, Windsor/ Heathrow area, who do people recommend for doing the cam belt change?
Scare mongering gets everyone worried that their car will blow up if they don’t get this or that done. Timing belts are a time/mileage consumable, the dephaser isn’t. The Renault technician has replaced hundreds of timing belts, but never a dephaser. People will swap it out if they are worried about failure, but not out of necessity. Does the dephaser not come with the timing belt kit anyway? It does in this kit from RPD https://www.renaultpartsdirect.co.uk/parts/service-parts/renault-megane-mk3-rs-cam-belt-change-kit/
I’m no expert at all, why the hate on Dephasers?[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
For the negligible price difference, I don't think I'll ever do the belts without the dephaser, it's not worth the risk. You could get the belts done and then 1000 miles later the depasher needs doing. Waste of £600.
If you can find someone that does the whole job for £300 then please tell me. Mine was done with genuine parts for £650.
apart from timing belt, tensioner, Dephaser, water pump, oil and filter there's couple other things while in there should also be changed: crank pulley bolt camshaft oil seal (they weep) timing end float oil seal Large timing end float oil seal Small there's also the Aux belt and tensioner that doesn't hurt to change while its all off anyway
I'm pretty sure the pulley bolt is done as part of it, not sure about the rest though. And there have been lots of cases from my research, they just don't fail in the same way as the Clio's.
If I was looking to buy a car without it done but the belts were I would assume the owner cut costs and corners. Just my own opinion.
