The Gym Thread

  1. Thought it might be worth having a thread to discuss all things Gym. If you've started a new work out routine and think its worth sharing, bang it in here. Likewise any new supplements etc.

  2. I love usp labs protein shake, its hard to get over here at the min. but there is a english supplier on ebay ,'vitabolics' who gets it and i order it from, but its the best shake i have ever used. Also just order a batch of Beast creatine, going to try it out

    I haven't been for 8 weeks and I'm basically a blob again!

I was going to go today but I simply could not be arsed!

  4. Bad Daz! I injured my arm and it put me out for about 6 weeks. It was bloody horrible going back and feeling weak as a girl, but starting to come back now. Just trying a Max Mass workout that came through on Twitter from Men's Health. So far so good!

  5. I've been thinking about going to my local boxing gym to have a go, ok it's not exactly the gym but still a good workout from what I've seen so far. I did go to a place called the Mill near me but the blokes were way to big and just scared me  it was all about being working to the point of being sick.. Just seemed wrong!

I was super skinny and no matter what I ate I just could not put on weight, now I'm trying to eat as much stake as poss with a few MFM drinks daily and it's slowly starting to help

Any type of workout is good for the brain imo

I do a lot of cardio when I'm there - It sounds silly but I'm a bit wary of the weights, I've never really figured out how to use them properly plus they always seem to have a queue!

  7. Book a few sessions with a personal trainer mate. Best money I've spent! Gives a lot more confidence that you're doing things right and not looking stupid! I'd never been to a gym before and was worried I'd look a total mong!

I should do really, although I look at the people who come in on day 1 and do a session with a trainer... they look really uncomfortable!

  9. I nearly spewed on my 1st session and only got half way through before the trainer aborted it!

  10. Got a spinning bike and weights at home, need to expand the weight collection though as can only fit on about 15kg or so on one of the dumb bells having taken all of them off the second one and it's still a bit easy.

  11. eBay is good for cheap weights. I've always got an eye out for cheap weights locally.

Nice to see a gym thread  I've been bodybuilding for the last 6 or so years
Im 25 and was going to enter my first competition in leeds last year until I had a bad car crash and put me out for about 8/9 months gradually getting back into it for the last 6 months. Gutted I missed the comp as I got down to 6/7% body fat and this was extremely hard as started prep at about 20% at 16st5 and dropped to 14st8

I train 4/5 days a week with my best mate who is a qualified PT so if anyone needs any advice or anything il happily help

As for supplements I could recommend, I use anabolic muscle fuel from USN and their anabolic creatine as im back in bulking again

Others from my protein incould recommend...
Beta Alanine.. more stamina and energy in sets
Zinc and magnesium before bedtime for increase natural gh levels and repair

  13. 6-7 % is v impressive mate. I love strawberry and cream muscle fuel anabolic but its ££££! I need to get my nutrition sorted which I plan to do in a few weeks as I've not been strict recently and put on a bit of belly! Planning to start the insanity workouts to burn that off. Currently loving squats at the most, but only got to about 140kgs with good form (90°) or below! Weigh about 95 KGS So would like to be squatting 160 plus really

Yes it was hard to get down to that as I have a slow metabolism to start with lol I can bulk easy peasy but when it comes to stripping its hard work

The usn has a great taste im really fussy with my protein but can drink neat creatine monohydrate which tastes like bleach lol

Dont worry too much about insanity workout to lose a gut the wuicker u lose the quicker you put on imo

Id try cutting carbs for first 6 weeks of training no carbs after 3 just load up after gym with them see how u go

If your training hard wnough and diets right belly will fall off tats what ive done recently and lost 4" off stomach and starting to see side cuts and abs

As for squats ive always had powerful legs from a kid much cycling and swimming for school lol

Iv been as big as 32" thighs which I bet most of people on here have thst waist size haha

I find front squats and rear combined are awesome for leg strength the front just hits quads so load them up I can only squat 220 5 20's a side plus bar but have been training a long time front squat is 140 though

A good tip is try throwing a high rep week in on everybody part say once every 4 weeks to shock your body and watch the differenct you see after about 12 weeks

  16. Good advice there with the high reps. I've found for me anyway is last week of a 6 week cycle I do giant sets on every body part. Very painful but worth it.

As for supps, I'm 32 and my metabolism has slowed down so I only have a post work out shake. rest of the time I make sure i have a protein source in every meal.

Been in the gym since I was a wee lad (15) and there aren't many routines I've not tried. Best advice is consistency with training! Just keep plodding away.

I tend to change my workouts every 10-12 weeks so body doesnt get used to it too the hi reps is freat im currently doing a week heavy doing away with high rep warmups

    Basic set for eg

    Chest press

    Warmup 30kg 6 reps
    2nd set 45 kg 6 reps
    3rd 65kg 8 reps

And so on for other 4 chest movements

Since taking this on my mass growth has been amazing

  18. Bought new pre workout shake today called 'raging beast' see if it make a difference more than others i have tried in the past, was on offer so thought id just get it and try it

Stay away from jack3d unless its dmaa free as it killed a runner iirc wouldnt really use one for mountain biking as its really deisgned for in the gym

Id say a good isotonic drink for mountain biking and beta alanine for increased stamina for the biking pal

  23. I have isotonic drink & use sis go hydro. The problem I have is that about 25 miles into a ride I'm struggling on the stamina side however I'm not out of breath. My body still wants to push on but my legs don't. I need something to give me that extra bit of energy.

  24. Well tried the 'raging beast' tonight had it 20 mins before my workout and i must say it is quite tangy and sour i got the bubble gum flavour but read some review and they said if you double the amount of water instead of 300ml use 600ml its takes away the sourness. it is drinkable tho. It certainly packs a punch per 25mg i could knock out them extra couple of reps on each set and didn't fatigue as much as normal but i will try it out for the week and report back.

ohh and each 25mg serving has 0FTxdk0l.png

Ive been training on and off for nearly 7 years tho pal tbh its not hard to lift big weight the hard part is keeping your fork which is soooo much more than big weights

Ie 20kg dumbells at perfect for for 10 reos squeezing every part of the movement and slow is better than throwing and jerking 40kg up and down and not really doing anything to the muscle... try it if you concentrate on form rather than weight weight will come naturally as you lift properly and the muscle grows so much better
