Can I get some recommendations for some front pads? Mainly for the road, but am going to be doing track days as well so I'd like something that isn't going to give up after a lap! Got some braided brake lines on the way as well, and will be doing the brake fluid at some stage. Cheers
Ferodo ds2500 pads that's what I've heard a lot of people use on track! I use ferodo ds performance because I haven't been on track these are very decent aswell!
I use DS2500 on my 172 as a daily drive and can't complain, the odd very light squeal but perform well.
carbotech xp8 are the ultimate for fast road and track work..incredible bite from cold and no fade. Grind like a pig at slow speeds and cause quite a bit of dust..but you will outbrake almost anything..very reassuring to have powerful brakes on the track. cost you a cool £200 though..but i dont care..everyone who drives my car ,always says first..what have you done to these brakes!
I was looking for the mintex m1144 pads for my R26 but I am really struggling to find them for the rear calipers. Am tempted by DS2500 but as I am doing mostly road driving I think they might be a bit overkill.
Ds2500's are perfect for road , more bite with low dust and don't squeal Mintex pads don't seen to be popular on the meganes .. Don't know why but nobody uses them Another fast road pad to consider is the EBC yellow stuff , cheap prices on them
JJC are good although there Ferodo prices seem to be going up Larkspeed sell both Ferodo and EBC pads , free delivery on EBC last time I checked too mate
Thanks John, Yeah I did check JJC and noticed the 2500's weren't cheap there! Is there much difference between 2500 and yellow stuff in your opinion? Will take a look at larkspeed now... thanks again.
Are they well worn ? Mine are silent Most race pads do tend to squeal .. My Ds3000's used to make small children in Africa cry lol
Did you put copper grease on the back of the pads ? Have they need bedded in ? They can squeak when worn down to the pins to the backing plate Should be pretty quiet really
I tried copper grease on the back before then adding to sides and pins, too. I've added 3M anti-squeal backing pads. Its fine when reassembling before getting progressively worse. I will try one more time where I clean pins and calipers better and use APEC brake grease. They were bedded in as per instructions, although someone pulling out on me at 70mph on the way home probably meant they didn't get the full cool down they should have - not convinced that should be an issue. I've attempted the bedding in process again and heat just makes it worse.
These don't squeal a little when warm, they have dogs barking within a 10 mile radius. Not tried on track yet. I don't think there is any more bedding in to do, they've done a good 1k miles with plenty of braking (much of that has been fun and twisty A/B roads)
De glaze them and start again. Knock the edges off the leading and trailing edges of the friction material and remove the paint from the pad backing plate so the slide easily.
