Recalibration of Steering after Battery Disconnect ? 225

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by DrewG, Mar 2, 2020.

  1. Evening All

The steering on my 06 225 has started behaving a bit strangely... Got in the car tonight and was completely dead.. popped the bonnet and the earth terminal seemed loose - jiggled it about and she started up fine.

I've fixed the loose connection using a small strip of copper and have cleaned up the terminal. So now have a good solid battery connection.

The Steering Wheel doesn't re-centre after turning, and occasionally it feels like its pulling to one side as I manually re-centre the wheel.

No knocking / obvious issues I can see or feel... havent hit anything either

I've seen a reference on here to a re-calibration procedure after battery disconnect that is in MR366X8436B000.pdf - wanted to give this a try before further investigation / potentially expensive fixes

Does anybody have a copy they could upload / send to me ? Or list the procedure ? Searched high and low and any links I can find are now broken

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Cheers
    Drew

  2. Sounds like your hub swivel bearings are seizing.

  3. hub bearings for sure...all suffer from them seizing eventually.
will need to have them rebuilt both sides.
Be a little careful driving the car..as the steering can sometimes get very tight at some locks.

  4. several companys do a rebuild kit with the bearing, and the turret that sits inside.
But its a fairly intensive amount of work,so wont be cheap, unless you know someone.

  5. Mark Black does it for £150 ish a side, quite a good price ands never stop hearing good about him and his quality of work.
