I have made the decision to break my R26. I have had ongoing electrical issues with this car, it's had 3 ECU's, the last one went at Spa a couple of days ago, there seems to be a fault with the can bus side, i am now thinking its a wire that either broken or damaged, after failing to complete 10 trackdays it's time to call it quits. The engine is absolutely great, when the ecu wasn't playing up it's ballistic. Was built by myself in early 2022. ECU is not for sale, unless YOU take full responsibility. Engine. Engine is forged, supertec valves, catcam valve springs, Clio 182 modified cams, ARP head studs, higher rated platinium plugs, 630 cc injectors, Mk3 rising rate fuel setup, the modified fuel in tank unit can go with it (DW65c fuel pump and a modified 5bar regulator) I will also supply the relay setup as well. All the bearings are King race bearings, new oil pump and chain, gaskets and seals etc, obviously a new cambelt kit was fitted, has been replaced again since, just because the engine was out and it was easier to do and i fitted the Clio cams. The turbo is a Borg Warner 6758 Twin Scroll unit, https://flic.kr/p/2iMkwjq it has an adapter plate i bought from the USA https://flic.kr/p/2kxM6sQ, https://flic.kr/p/2kxRkUG, fitted on a standard manifold. Clutch is a paddle one with single mass flywheel. The Decat pipe was fabricated by me and welded by someone who knows what he's doing. Mapped at EFI, did pull 436hp but dropped it back https://flic.kr/p/2pbyh5v The air con has been deleted, but if you want to use yours it's an easy swap. Gearbox. Gearbox is the proper R26 one, standard LSD has a short shift mod arm. Suspension. Suspension is BC DS 8/7 kg, this is the track spec ones, there not as bad as people say, i adjusted the setup from the box and they are great on the road, well i think so. These were bought and fitted in and around when the engine was built. Roll Cage. 1/2 Roll cage is a SW Motorsport with extra bracing in red. https://flic.kr/p/2mfvfEt Other stuff also available. Seat bases, (think Ktec but will check) adjustable runners, aluminium side mounts and possibly the seats, Mirco RTS GT special edition with 3D fabric, in red and black https://flic.kr/p/2mfu8hC Miltec exhaust, cat back, non resonated. and all the usual car bits etc etc Location is Plymouth Devon I have a friends car to fix, after that i will strip the car. Thanks Ian
Hi Ian,I was wondering how you got on at Spa. Sorry to hear of the problems with the car, will you now give up on track days, of try a different make of car?.
I managed just about half a day of day one, the ECU is the problem, but i think its caused by a wiring fault somewhere, i have tried to find it, but without removing the loom which is dash out, i can't be arsed now. Give up on trackdays, i don't think so Replacement is already here, has been for a while, was going to sell it on, but now i have decided to keep it. It's a White 250, i will start another build thread at some point, although my 265 build is on here.
@B6lee I am looking at £6500 complete, engine, turbo setup, paddle clutch, in tank pump assembly with 5 bar reg and DW65c pump etc etc etc The only thing else you will need is to get it mapped, it run in, done a couple of trackdays with no issues, except the ECU If you want the suspension as well (its the DS version) i will do it all for £7k
that’s a bit much for me. Just looking for a forge engine and stick to a stock frame turbo (250) so as to keep the drivability and manners of a factory car.
Okay, i could do something, as there is someone that wants the turbo set up, i could do the engine on it's own for £4500
believe me this drives as nearly a stock car, the 182 cams lift the start of the boost by 500rpm, but pulls harder and stronger all the way to the red and beyond, this is why i did this setup https://flic.kr/p/2pcxs3g
Yes but what those cams going to be like with a stock frame turbo. Price for the engine seems a bit much. You can leave the clutch off. What else is included?
The cams moved the power up the rev range, but altering the timing brought it back down again, but it now produces power up higher up the revs where the stock drops off long before. I don't think this is for you then. I bought a 250 that was "Forged" and it broke a valve, the owner was charged £8k, they didn't even change the valves, the 265 Lux i have rebuild was the same and that lasted less than 4000 miles, no trackdays on either car, the engines were built by 2 different companies, i hope you don't get one of these to build your engine.
Surly a build is done to the spec of the customers requirements. If they didn’t ask for valves then what else did they charge for ??? I had a price last year from AW Motorworks so looking to them if no used ones available
