  1. Hello,

Even though i'm not from UK so some stuff is different than your country,i'm looking to purchase a Megane RS Phase 2 2007 RS 225 Cup chassis.

This particular one which i'm hunting is private owned and his the first owner:

    - 98k km (around 61k miles)
    - 2007
    - 5dr
    - brembo red calipers
    - he says its a Cup Chassis (he sent me the invoice from the purchase date where it says Sport Chassis Package). This is the Cup?

The asking price (and negotiable) around 6000 euros (5.4k pounds).
In my country good ones are around these prices.

The question is being my first personal owned Renault (i had only company Reno's before): What should i look for when test driving it and check ups?

PS: Sorry,i did not found a section for these questions.

  2. Hey
Look for sound in corners when you accelerate

That's one big problem from megane. The drive shafts are very weak

The other things should be controlled like any other car, rust, scratches, oil service and so on...

It's a very stable and nice looking car, and a exotic. The gti is at any corner in Germany but i only see maybe every 2 months an another megane.

  3. Sound from the driveshafts while cornering (on the bends and so on)? Got it.
Some people suggested the compression, there some known issues or is a general advice?
I was looking for GtI because there many on the road so cheaper parts and much more mechanics than Renault brand has.

  4. Compression? The engine from the Renault is very thankful and hold a lot of abuse

Mhm parts cost are okay, there is not much tuning parts available like bodykits or shifter are only at high cost available but performance parts are cheap

In my personal eyes the gti is not at the same high as the Renault. Optical and engine be like.

The only really better thing on VW is its cheaper to tune and the service would be cheaper a bit. But still not a argument to by one in my eyes

And the community here is awesome and helpful.

    Are you maybe from Germany?

  5. Thats good to hear.
Not planning in doing body kits (maybe the shift knob, because that looks like Dacia's ) ) and at some point a re-mapping of the engine (turbo eh  ).

    Im from Roumania.

    Jukidam likes this.
  6. I think you will be very happy with the car but test both cars

With a upgrade intercooler and exhaust system 260-270hp wouldnt be a problem

Maybe more doesn't know what Standart turbo can make

  7. these cars are getting old now,and have a tendency for everything on the suspension/bush side to wear out relatively at the same time.So look for receipts of parts that have been renewed..like dampers,springs,suspension/steering parts ,engine mounts and all bushes.

My own R26 is 2007,and over the last 2 years has had everything renewed.

Look for evidence of clutch/cambelt/DMF renewel..as these items are very expensive to replace.
Engines will take abuse, but the rods are the weak point if the power is increased to far,or badly tuned.

Look for stiffness in the gear lever and non self centering..very common.
Look for steering not self centering...swivel hub bearings gone..very common, and will cost a fair bit of money to replace.

Window regulators are weak,so check that electric windows go up and down ok.

A lot of these cars have been neglected.
I have a Finish friend who bought a 2006 225,and after thorough inspection..a lot of money will need to be spent on it to make it worth while.

If the car isnt sharp on the test drive..things are wrong..so be careful.
