powerflex

  1. fitted Powerflex camber adjustable front bushes yesterday, what a pig of a job. Finished at 11-30 last night, but haven't/can't set the camber. The C spanner is made of chocolate and you can't get it onto the next groove to pull round to adjust the camber as there isn't enough space, so camber is out at the mo. Got Cadwell coming up next Saturday, does anyone know of anyone who can have a look and hopefully set the camber? wish i'd just left it alone now : (

  2. Oh dear. You got any pictures of them? I've never seen any so not sure what your options are or how they work? Are they in some way calibrated so you don't need to set the geometry with laser or similar? Wrong part of the country or I'd take a look for you.
How far away are you from Mark Fish?

  3. As above mate. Give Mark a call.

  4. Usual powerflex quality then, I fitted there kit to my 182 trophy.

The metal sleeves that you weld into place didn't fit so required modification before welding.

Then due to the material of the bushes I found they just ate themselves and fell to bits!

Never again will I fit there crap!

  5. wow is that true dan cos cazanracing and others on here swear by em, I was going to buy set for the engine n gbox, so you think there crap then??

  6. Im speaking from my personal experience, the dog bone mounts were ok on the clios I couldn't fault them but the wishbone bushes were diabolical. The fitment was poor and the material just chewed itself to bits and I wasn't the only one to say that.

I know they did change the design some what but from what I read they weren't much better. I even spoke to Fred at Btm about the issue and even he said he thought they weren't up to much!

  7. cheers dan I appreciate the comments, can I ask what engine n gbox bushes you recommend mate , as I fancy changing all 3

  8. On the clios I ran powerflex lower dogbone which like I said seem to bear up ok then vibratechnic uppers.

I have a new set of genuines on the Meg and tbh I'm happy with them, I may get a lower stabiliser mount but that'll be it as I found uprated mounts an overkill on the clios and they just apply stress to other areas.

I have been considering buying the camber and castor bushes.

Would you mind taking some pics please so we can see how they fit and adjust (or not as it sounds like)?

I've run the Powerflex dogbone mount on my Clio 172 without issues.

  10. Like I said tim, no issues with the dogbone bushes but the wishbone bushes were wank!

If you want adjustable camber just get top mounts, a lot less fucking about

  11. cheers mate

  12. we had to trim most of the bushes to get them to fit, once all back in you can't turn the camber adjustment collar because the spanner is a piece of shit and the once the bolt that holds the mount in is tightened you can't turn the collar, so subframe off again, pissed off doesn't cover it:mad:

  13. You shouldn't have to cut anything, another shite mod that everyone has jumped into getting done, stick to standard, most don't even know and understand what they do, more than likely make the car worse , waste of money.

  14. They will make the toe go out massively too as they have a pivot point on the rear bush.

  15. There quality control is awful! Full alignment will be needed after as MJ has already said and seeing as it can't be adjusted easily....... Have fun!

R26 and r26r bushes are stiffer then the 225 stuff anyway I've got a set of both arms and bushes are different in stiffness and appearance

Ran their mounts on the clio for years with no issues. Really tightened the whole thing up. I got the gearbox mounts and rear beam for the Meg. That's enough for me, well Fred, to fit as the rest I'll just keep oem.

And they're hardly a shite mod are they Steve, if you'd have fitted them they'd be something to save humanity.

  17. Increasing the the camber will make the car use the most of its tyres on the track. It's worth while rather than spending 300+ on top mounts or 700+ on suspension.

  18. Well up to now for Martin at least their shite, for the price of them they should not need to be butchered to make them fit then all the hassle he's now got to encounter inc the extra added cost to get things put right, so after all the hassle how much camber will he get, next to nothing at all, only real way is with an adjustable top mount, ask him if he's happy with them.
Thats why I say better left alone.

  19. top mounts will get camber that's worth having,

  20. they do make the car feel tighter if you know what i mean, but defy not worth the hassle, plus the fit is absolutely shite, the C spanner needs to be seen to be believed, it bends and twists when you look at it, absolutely no chance of being able to adjust camber with it, pissed off I've been stupid enough to mess with my lovely car, probably gonna order 2 new standard wishbones if Mark Black can't sort it, seeing him next week. avoid at all costs you lot, not worth the hassle. few hundred pounds down and more to spend to get it right:mad:

  21. Massive thanks to Ed (liquid f1) for having the patience to stick with it into the night, what a feckin nightmare.

  22. That's straight from the horses mouth, if that's not convincing enough get ya money out and buy a shite load of STRESS

  23. its easy to get sucked in to the modding bollox, as i have, this is by far the biggest load of shite you can inflict on your car, avoid at all cost, it doesn't fit properly and isn't worth the time/effort/cost, plus you can't bloody adjust it anyway. i'm hoping Mark Black can work his magic, but it shouldn't be like this.

  24. Shouldn't you get rid of the AST's Steve as they didn't fit!

  25. Out of interest what mounts did you have on the clio? I had no problems with multiple dog bone mounts as I stressed but the wishbone bushes were wank! Collars were welded as instructed and within 12 months and 15k miles the wishbone bushes had eaten themselves!

Track car or drive way queen they'd no doubt last longer but 9/10 drivers won't be able to tell the difference between new OEM Renault bushes and this tripe, big placebo!

Thing is if your going to the extent of custom geo setups for track and chasing lap times stretching to a set of coilovers and top mounts is worth is?

That way you'll benefit from ease of adjustment because after all were all race drivers on here and can tell the difference between 10 minutes of camber and we won't be happy with the first set up, where in reality a lot of drivers in here won't know if there running 2 degrees neg or 3.

Says a lot when a focused hatch like the r26 and r26r has nearly a degree in tolerance from factory in front camber angles and as standard most people, automobile journalists and tv presents are happy with them

  26. gotta agree Dan, i've learned an expensive pain in the arse lesson, won't be touching any aftermarket shite again.

  27. Nope not at all , they fit perfectly, Curtis sent the wrong bracket which I expected nothing less from AST, rather than wait we corrected it at no cost.

Best get rid of Curtis then ey...

Dan the whole car was done fella, but yeh, it wasn't used everyday so maybe thats why my bits lasted longer. Its weird really as the stresses you'd associate with fitting the bushes and mounts were intact a massive contributor to making the car alot smoother.

But as per the meg, the Lower gearbox is shot on mine so its a worth doing and the rear beam needs dropping and realigning at BTM next week so may as well get it tightened up at the back with some different springs for the V3s.

  29. I would sack Curtis, he's a useless prick lol. Only on Thursday I was speaking to another Meg owner at RS tuning who'd had to deal direct with ast Holland! Shame really as there a good product!

Regards wishbone bushes I turned my own on the lathe that replicated the cup racer setup using nylon

    nice good setup!

yeh he's known as a right wrong un is that Curtis, you'd think AST would find a better UK rep but hey ho!

  31. Martin, you should know you can't make the "Ultimate R" any better than it already is

  32. i wish i'd taken that advice earlier Rob

  33. was you trying to adjust the bush with the weight of the car on the arm

  34. No, we even took the from subframe off for a 2nd time to loosen the bolt that holds it all together, there isn't enough room to reach the next groove on the collar if you know what i mean, plus the spanner is a joke, it bends and twist with the slightest effort and i mean slightest. Its a proper shit bit of kit.

  35. I didn't have any problems with the wishbone bushes on the Clio, ran them for a good few years, only issues I heard of with them was when people didn't tack weld the sleeves in, although I'm not sure if I had the revised ones or not

  36. Like I said mine were tack welded by Fred at Btm whilst I was at the dvla swapping swapping regs purely to makesure I had no issues, I think what happened when they weren't welded was the sleeves used to run away at subframe

  37. I'm very surprise at what I've just read. I had the full kit on my 172 and they lasted about 3years. They didn't degrade and the feeling they provided was excellent.

When I saw the kits come available for the Megane I was very tempted. I wouldn't of got the camber adjustable kit, but I would of had the other kits.

Ill have to look more in to this before I take the plunge.

  38. its only the camber adjustable kit I've had the problem with, so would avoid that at all costs.

Did you fit the castor lower arm bush?

  40. Me too andy, was going to put an order in to angel but I think I will sourse elsewhere now or just go o/e
