I think I know the answer but I just want to check with people who know more than me ie everyone on this forum. :-) If you may recall had brake issues last few trackdays when running std everything. Have now upgraded to pads to yellow stuff and braided lines to front and RBF660 fluid. Did Bedford on Monday and was a hot day and a couple of times brake pedal went to the floor with no braking force available (once in the paddock which was er interesting). But at least I’m not having steering wheel shake from pads sticking to discs as before. I’m hoping it’s just from not doing proper cooldown laps (yea I know keep forgetting) and staying out too long on a hot day. Yes?
The options on EBC pads are always mixed, however I used to use Yellowstuff pads on my track prepped mx5. On that they worked well, however it was only 1050kg and 150bhp. What I would find that on the first trackday after fitting them they always faded really bad, no matter how well I thought I'd bedded them in on the road. After letting them fully cool down after that first instance of fading they worked great and never faded again. I went through 3 or 4 sets over the years on that car and they were the same every time I fitted new ones. What they are like on a heavier more powerful Megane I wouldn't know but as usual the general consensus is that they are poor (however most of the people that slate them have probably never tried them). Performance Friction pads get good reviews and are currently on offer at Autolusso for £105 for the fronts
So we’re def saying it’s the pads...? I’m happy to try diff ones once these are done. Be interesting to see if they’re better on the next TD as they were with you.
TBH I'm not 100% sure, however your issues do seem to match with the symptoms of a master cylinder with failing internal seals.
I have tried quite a few different sets of pads now, i am running Endless pads at the moment, they were £400 imported from Japan, don't get me wrong they are good but are they better than PR z rated pads that are now waiting to go on, i have had these before they won't last as long as the Endless ones but at £114 delivered its hard to find anything that is better value for the money, just think of it this way, if you run off the track due to brake fade or rear end someone a good set of pads would have been money well spent. Just my 2p worth what tyres are you running ???
If you were getting issues with the master cylinder, then this would be all of the time and would be getting worse.
Nankangs NS2rs - seem to match if not exceed my abilities. I think I need to run proper cool down laps plus Bedford gets super hot on hot days. If I still have an issue then I’ll look at further pad upgrading innit. Doooo so love my Meg on track when everything’s running right. I need to try a higher performance car because at the mo I can’t imagind getting more bang for my buck.
Nankangs aren't disgusting so okay there, you really need to do a cool down lap after every session, don't slow down too much as you need the air to still go through the rad and brakes, don't boost if at all possible and come off the throttle before the corners and try to run around them without braking. I use this time to drive the lines through the corners and get your turn in, apex and exit point finely tuned
