New member and R26 owner in New Zealand

Discussion in 'New to the Club? Why not introduce yourself?' started by PhilWalter, Aug 29, 2015.

  1. Patience and perseverance his finally paid off - I managed to track down most of the owners of Liquid Yellow R26's in NZ ( there are no more then six ! ) - none wanted to sell. Left a note on the windscreen of this one a while back while out cycling and a few weeks ago I got a phone call :-)

A deal was done, and now I'm a very happy man indeed. Its one owner with FSH, 55kms in fantastic original condition. Was due for another service so first thing I did was take it to Renault. Was fearing a phone call wanting approval for expensive bits required, but it never came. Even happier !

I am in the UK for a few months shortly for work, so may consider bringing back a few treats for it. Considering a mild remap from RS Tuning in Leeds , using their remote box system that I can bring back with me. Maybe upgrade the intercooler to a Forge. Would that be money spent in the right areas to get a bit more power without going crazy ?

I'm also looking for best place in the UK for genuine Renault parts at a good price. I also own a Clio and used to use a great guy called Adam, but it seems he's moved on from Renault. Any help appreciated.

  2. That looks fantastic mate, glad you're enjoying it.

Your plans sounds good too - you won't go wrong with RS tuning. Give them a call and I'm sure they will discuss tuning options with you.

Adam has indeed moved on but you can still call the same number and get the same discounts. Just tell them you used to go through Adam.

    Welcome to the site.

  3. Welcome to the site mate!

Car looks great, and a great story about managing to track one does in NZ!

Ideas about mods sound great - stage 1 RS T map will bring all the torque in at 2,500 instead of 3.5, much more driveability, mine ended up with 255BHP and 275Lb/ft with the map from them.

I also got a bigger intercooler - Airtec, ideal for keeping the power delivery regardless of how hard you are working the car (even in Scotland with low temps the power fade from std intercooler was bad).

Best mod thats a little left-field for the R26 has to be the short shifter mod - you can buy the kit from Ktec for a whopping £250, however its possible to get this machined by taking off the gear linkage selector. There's a chap on this 'Boardy' who does this for forumers for a fraction of the cost - its a mod that totally transforms the wooly vague gearchange into a really short, direct throw that matches the performance of the car.

A good place for cheap parts now is renault parts direct: http://renaultpartsdirect.co.uk/

  4. Thanks for the help. Seems I'm on the right track with those upgrades then. I'd like to put a Milltek on there, but I also quite like the whistle noise ! I'd imagine the Milltek would sound pretty lush in its own way though.

  5. Why has that R26 not got the recaro seats ? , welcome along
intercooler not needed unless tracking it although with the heat you get over their why not.
    Stage 1 map
    good tyres
    good pads
    short shift
    job done and enjoy mate

  6. All the NZ cars came without the Recaro's for some reason which is a massive shame as they look and I'd imagine feel so much better.

So if anyone wants to sell me a set ??!!

  7. Sure you'll find a set , getting them home could be costly though mate

  8. Do they bolt straight in ?

Also - anyone use the Connects2 Bluetooth kit and can comment on it ?

And a RS Tuning 3" decat into a Milltek system, how would that be sound wise ? I don't want anything too loud and prefer a softer deeper tone over something screemy.

  9. Yes they will bolt straight in mate

  10. If I want one of Paul's maps and go to order an RS Tuning remote box and load in my car details it tells me I'm getting a Fastchip RS Tuner and the RS Tuning Slave at 594 pounds. Do I need both, I thought these were two different companies offering a similar product. Confused !

  11. I'm going to get a RS Tuning decat for the car. I've also just ordered a new O2 sensor for it, but now wondering if this becomes redundant with a decat or does it plumb in before the cat ? With a decat are their any sensors that you remove or tie out of the way ?

  12. Amazing car mate
    Welcome
    Loving the color
