New guy... Be gentle! :-)

  1. Hey folks,

I'm new to the site and researching an RS Megane 250/265 as a possibility to replace my current Octavia vRS. While the Octavia's been worthy, I want something that is a little pokier and a little less understeery. Not sure if I'd go for a Megane or another rival yet- I think I'll stick with a FWD hatch but I want something different to another VW Group car.

It'll be quite a long time before I can afford one but at least it'll give me time to be well prepared.

Any experience of getting child seats into the rear would be appreciated! (Do non-Recaros help there?)

    Thanks!

  2. hi, and welcome to the page blearyeyedboy. i was in the same boat as you 4 months ago and was in the market for a hot hatch , i test drove the main bunch e.g astra vxr ,s3 r32, golf gti and the focus st ... 3 of my mates had st's and i really liked the 5pot engine and face lift looks and decent tuning potential and decided that was the one i was going to go for , i stumbled upon the megane by complete accident by looking at the price range on a focus rs on fleabay and on the other searches on there popped up rs megane . Doubtful at first due to it being "french" i looked in to them further and slowly began to realise i was ticking more and more boxes on my wishlist of requirements , isofix, blue tooth , reverse parking sensors good nap rating etc, took the plunge and test drove one and i was blown away , good power loads of little gadgets fantastic handling and to be fair the cabins also a nice place to be (for me anyway) .i did debate on whether i was going to be buying a "money pit" but its been absolutely faultless from the day i got . best decision i ever made was getting my rs250 and the the face on my mates standard st as i just glide on past is priceless . Research them , test drive one then test drive a few other makes , the car WILL sell itself . sorry for rambling on

    Thanks for the warm welcome!

  4. And yeah, my first thoughts were worries about French cars- my first car was a Megane mk1 that gave me no end of trouble- but things have come a long way for Renault since then and I think they're now pretty well put together.

  5. they have to be honest , i had a clio 182 a while back and that was like being in a plastic bag , great car tho ! the only issue I've had with mine was a worn gearbox mount and I've got a pulley on its way out i think , other than that its been good , i would definitely bare it in mind tho because they do have there quirks/ unique characteristics shall i say but the car as a package and what it delivers far out weighs the fact its french and i personally think you get a lot of car for the money in comparison to other brands ( personal opinion )

  6. Welcome
