  1. After new tyres for my Meg has anyone got these ? Any good and worth the extra over other brands etc ? I have Goodyear F1 asymmetrical 2's at the moment.

Bit of a compromise unless your just doing track work.

    Stick with PSS's IMO.

Following on from what Jamie says I have a tyre durometer which I started using a few years back to monitor tyres on my race car. I found on that car the Dunlop DZ03g I started racing on went hard from basically driving the car up and down motorways to get to tracks, they ended up rock hard before the tread had worn down and this massively hampers the ability of the tyre to produce the grip and hence lap times. The racers are extolling how wonderful the new cups are but they are doing maybe 6 to 8 hours total running on them and perhaps 18 to 20 total heat cycles. That is not a lot of miles. I live not far from Castle Combe and Thruxton so I am thinking of getting the new cups next year on another set of wheels just for doing the track days, putting a lot of road miles on them will for sure leave them a long way from their best. Just another thought on the out and out track tyre question as its not just about wet weather performance.

  4. So what's your advice for doing lots of milage?

Pss's don't actually have that brilliant a wear rate, PS2's last far better.

  7. I have PS2's on my Trophy and while they grip very well, I think for track you'd need a bit more grip to be safe. I love Michelin tyres they're great!

Other tyres I found to be excellent are Yokohama AD08R's. I had them on my Honda and used the car daily and they were superb in all conditions. And really really grippy when pressing on in the dry.

I am keeping an eye on the new Continental contisportcontact 6 as fitted to the Honda civic type-R, that car seems to work amazingly well both wet and dry so I am hoping that performance can translate to other cars when the tyre comes out in other sizes. Seems to be a much more general purpose tyre than the pure track tyres.

  9. I went for the Pzero this time round. The michelins don't disappoint but I find they still leave you wanting that little bit more.

  10. In the video evo did of the Megane vs the new type r they said the cup 2 tyres offer more grip. Really surprised Honda didn't opt for these. All the special cars run them. Or even some special edition Yokohama advans or something. They are Japanese after all!

I don't doubt it but there seems to be question marks around the cup 2 in cold conditions, this for me is enough to question if it is really a suitable road use tyre or just a bolt on for the track days type job. Its the cold that is the problem. I raced on Pirelli slicks in driving rain at Silverstone but it was something like 16 degrees C and the grip was surprisingly not that bad. OTOH I crashed at Brands Hatch in qualifying when running on the original Michelin Cups in the rain but that time only 8 degrees C, grip/traction was much less than the Pirelli slicks at 16 degrees. We get a lot of single digit wet days unfortunately.

  12. I'm hoping they will make the PSS in 235/40/18 ? Soon

  13. I ran the PSS in 225/40/18, no problems at all, they were brilliant at Anglesey in really wet conditions, and pretty decent when it dried up, great all round tyre IMO.

  14. Yes apparently cups are bad in the wet and I imagine cold too. It can affect the performance a lot. To be Horst any tyre in the cold isn't great but as long as it's dry they will perform ok. I just drive more carefully in inclement weather!

  15. In my recent experience of cup2's if it's cold and wet leave them at home, They are terrible!! Not tried them on a warm dry day but I think they will be very good.

  16. I was going to try them out but after playing cat and mouse with Carl at cadwell the other day I've changed my mind, the PSS were better , maybe a different story come the summer though

  17. The issue is pss aren't available in the right profile in 18" though. How about 19" are they in 235 then? I may get some Turini wheels for mine we shall see.

  18. Yes they are I run them on my 19's

  19. Thanks dude.
