265 Megane 3 strut tower cut problem,

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by Or Tshuva, Aug 12, 2023.

  1. Hello. I have 2013 Megane 265 cup, the previous owner who installed coilovers (AST 5100) have cutted the strut tower in a very unprofessional way (see picture below). later, car has been installed back with stock suspension. Fast forward to date, i have purchased kw clubsport, and need to install them soon. The problem is there is a very little crack on the strut tower from the cut to the bolt. To be honest the cut has concern a lot, and I’m not installing the coilovers until I’m make the strut tower perfect and strong enough. Im looking for the best way to make the strut stronger, nice looking with no worries afterwards. I have planned on welding the crack, sand it and than paint it, but i think it’s just matter of time it will come again. So I would be happy if you can suggest me
    Some ways for the job
    Thank you!

  2. I'd start off as you described it.
But I'd also invest quite some time making that cut cleaner (there is a reason why a round cut would be better for this!).

Then I'd start measuring up everything and get plate machined to put over it.

You may find that this is a bit more complicated than expected.

    Real tough luck...

  3. Personally I think what’s been done is horrific and needs more sorting than just welding that crack. It will only crack again.

I would get a steel ring welded on. Google it and places like CGR have done this.

It will strengthen the area and give you confidence again. You can then paint it all up and it will look great and offer much more strength.

I would say don’t panic too much as this area doesn’t offer much structural integrity, but that’s still what I would be doing.

  4. The car is being transferred for a shop to create a CNC machine plate over the current strut tower, and beneath it will weld a plate to create It as it was.
I couldn’t find what CGR have done, do you have a link
