Hi people, just joined the forum as will hopefully be the new owner to a megane 225. However before I do go through with it I just want to to know what people really think about them, good or bad? And what do people honestly think about there looks? Hopefully here from some of you's soon Chris [emoji106] Sent from my F8331 using Tapatalk
Hey chris, welcome to the forum. Your most likely going to get a biased view as it is a megane forum! But honestly they are good cars IMO, i have an R26. I came from a ph1 172 that was modded a bit and running 190hp, initially i didnt think the megane was any quicker than my old clio (a remap did sort that though). The clio was more "raw" and definitely more fun, it liked to have its neck ringed and ragged everywhere. The megane is a lot more grown up, its quieter, roomier, comfier has that turbo kick, and is a lot nicer place to be in the cabin - although that is comparing it to an old clio! It does like a good b road blast and is pretty effortless to drive long distances. It all depends on what you want from a car? What type are you potentially going for, as the ph1's were regarded as the most sedate with the softest suspension, worst steering feel etc. I know what you mean about the looks, as when they first came out i wasn't that keen at all, but they did grow on me and to tbh i do like the fat arse she has!
Haha thanks for the reply Currently I'm looking at a 07 225, 5 door as more practical for me, I have no problem with things going wrong occasionally, however, some of the things people have put not sure I can afford afford new parts every week lol. Currently own a 1.2 clio as first car. So now looking to step up, bigger and faster and I do like hot hatches however not many fit what I'm looking for as and a 5 door Sent from my F8331 using Tapatalk
It'l be a ph 2 then IMO they look a lot nicer from the front end, although that's subjective.... 5 doors are quite rare also tbh! If you don't mod it, the engines are generally reliable, they can have a few electrical gremlins, most common culprit is the window regulators which unfortunately the 5 door has 4 instead of just 2! My advice would be, if they all work when you get it take the door cards off and install/ cover the electrics with a makeshift wet seal from thin plastic and mastic/ sealant. Other common problems are blocked scuttle drains which can cause water ingress into the cabin, doesn't help that the electrical bits under the passenger seat can then get wet, but regular maintenance will keep this averted (I try and check mine 2-3 times a year). Hub bearings is another fairly common one, not overly cheap to fix if you have to pay someone, but if your handy with the tools its pretty cheap. Its not new parts every week, but they are not "cheap" cars to run if you have to pay a mechanic and something goes wrong/ maintenance
Luckily I'm a qualified mechanic haha so all the work will done by myself. Have you got any mods done on yours? Think if I do go ahead and buy it I'll be asking you for a whole lot more advice when needed haha Sent from my F8331 using Tapatalk
It certainly helps if you know how to do the work yourself! A few bits and bobs, nothing too major at the mo, just the usual, exhaust, intercooler, induction, brakes etc. Nay probs fella, if you do go ahead be sure to post some pics up!
They are great cars. I have had mine for 2 months now, bought it at a bargain price of $2500 but had to spend another $1500, but runs like a top now 100'000 miles on the clock with moonroof. Really stunning car and such a nice looking car. When u do buy make certain u buy one with history. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ah that's gonna be my downfall The one I'm looking at looks in brilliant condition just no service history Sent from my F8331 using Tapatalk
I'm a new 225 owner, had mine 4 weeks now. So far loving it. Came from a Clio 172 Cup that was mapped and modded so was pretty swift. Agree with the previous comments, the Clio is all noise and revs to go fast and 'feels' fast and involving. The Megane is quicker but the turbo torque just wafts you along. Its only when you look at the speedo you realise how quick your going. I took a punt on mine as id bought from a forum member on cliosport.net. The cambelt, swivel joints and hub bearings had been replaced by the previous owner whose a mechanic but had no receipts. Its been remapped, induction kit, decat and stainless exhaust. Estimated at 270bhp and its bloody rapid. Lots of creature comforts built in, leather, cruise, climate control. Just a nice place to be. They feel very solid and planted when you hoon it round the twisty stuff. Surprised me tbh as it feels much bigger than my old Clio but just as nimble. Brembos do a great job of slowing you down too. All in all so far I'm glad I made the upgrade. Cheers
